The 2026 Mach-E Survives Ford’s Cull as a Costly Family EV

The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E is Ford’s last passenger EV in U.S. showrooms, and the Premium AWD testers keep getting costs $59,635. Select is still starting at $37,795 before destination, which is how the crossover wins a four-way price sheet against Tesla, Kia, and Chevrolet.

The week behind the wheel was calm, quiet, and about 300 miles of range in the heat. The irony is that the car which outlived Ford’s EV cuts did so by barely changing, then charging extra for a frunk that used to be standard.

The Last Passenger EV in Ford’s Showroom

Ford ended production of the all-electric F-150 Lightning in 2025 and said the name will return later as an extended-range truck with a gasoline generator. The next electric commercial van for North America was pulled. Until a midsize electric pickup arrives from Louisville Assembly in 2027, the Mach-E is the Blue Oval’s only non-commercial battery EV a retail buyer can order.

That is a strange job for a five-seat crossover that still wears a pony badge. It is also why a 2026 model with almost no hardware news is still on lots. Jim Farley, Ford’s president and CEO, put the wider pivot in one line in December 2025.

This is a customer-driven shift to create a stronger, more resilient and more profitable Ford.

Ford said it expects to record about $19.5 billion in special items on the EV reset, with about $5.5 billion in cash effects, most of that paid in 2026. By 2030 it wants about 50 percent of global volume in hybrids, extended-range EVs, and full electrics, up from 17 percent in 2025. The Mach-E is not the vehicle that plan is built around.

$59,635 Was the Price of the Car They Drove

The $37,795 figure is a rear-drive Select with the 73-kWh standard-range pack and 260 miles of EPA range. The car in Race Red was a Premium with all-wheel drive, the 88-kWh extended-range battery, and a long options list. Premium AWD itself starts at $43,595 before destination.

Race Red is $495, and Ford lists white and black as the colors that do not carry a premium. The extended-range pack is $4,750 on Premium. From there the window sticker is a pile of packages, adapters, and a $2,045 destination charge.

HOW THE TESTED PREMIUM HIT $59,635

Item Price
Premium AWD (before destination) $43,595
Race Red paint $495
Extended-range 88-kWh battery $4,750
Sport Appearance Package $2,995
Panoramic roof $1,875
Technology package (BlueCruise, power liftgate, driver camera) $1,495
Connectivity package $745
Frunk hardware $495
Mobile power cord $500
SiriusXM, three years $300
NACS fast-charge adapter $200
Tire sealant kit $145
Destination $2,045
As-tested total $59,635

Skip the appearance pack, the glass roof, the hotspot, and the radio and the same AWD extended-range Premium still sits in the low $50,000s with destination. That is the car that makes the 300-mile claim, not the Select on the billboard.

Ford Made the Frunk a $495 Extra

For 2026 Ford did not fit a new battery, a new motor, or a new body. GT and Rally still get the 91-kWh pack and the loud hardware. Volume cars got a shorter standard-equipment list.

WHAT CHANGED ON THE 2026 MACH-E

  • Frunk hardware: The 2.6-cubic-foot drainable front trunk is now a $495 option after years as standard kit.
  • Tire inflator: A sealant kit is on the order sheet at $145, sold as a small add-on rather than a model-year redesign.
  • California Special: A $2,495 appearance pack is new on GT, with Rave Blue accents, and it does not change range or power.
  • NACS adapter: Tesla Supercharger access is a $200 dongle, not a native port on the car.

Ford still prints “available frunk” on the product page and notes it can hold ice or muddy boots. Buyers who want that bin pay for a latch and liner the company used to include. The move looks like a factory simplification more than a customer request.

Why 300 Miles Belongs to a Different Car

Ford’s EPA sheet is honest if you read every line. Select rear-drive with the 73-kWh pack is 260 miles. Add all-wheel drive and it falls to 240. The 300-mile figure is the 88-kWh pack with two motors. Premium rear-drive with that pack is the long-range champ at 320 miles. GT is 280. Rally is 255.

The tested Premium AWD makes 370 horsepower and 500 lb-ft from the dual motors. Select rear-drive is 264 horsepower and 387 lb-ft. Select AWD on the small pack is 325 horsepower. They share a badge and a 15.5-inch center screen. They do not share the week of driving that made the 300-mile claim look fair in hot weather with the air on.

On the road the dual-motor car is a quiet commuter until Unbridled mode dumps the horses. The low center of gravity and 225-millimeter tires keep it predictable. Climate, nav, and drive modes live on the tablet. Ford’s software behaved. The car is a family SUV that happens to be electric, which is the point of keeping it on sale after the Lightning died.

A Model Y Starts at $39,990 With 321 Miles

On a starting-sticker chart the Mach-E still undercuts its usual rivals. The gap is small, and the EPA numbers do not follow the same rank order as the prices.

2026 ELECTRIC CROSSOVER STICKERS

Model (base) Starting MSRP EPA range Max cargo (cu ft)
Ford Mustang Mach-E Select RWD $37,795 260 miles 59.7
Kia EV6 (base) $37,900 about 237 miles 46.7
Tesla Model Y Standard RWD $39,990 321 miles varies by trim
Chevrolet Blazer EV $44,700 312 miles FWD 59.1

Tesla’s Standard rear-drive Model Y carries 321 miles of EPA range at a $39,990 sticker, which is 61 miles more than the Mach-E Select that undercuts it on price. Ford’s own long-range rear-drive Mach-E, at 320 miles, is the one that matches that number, and it is not the $37,795 car. Select’s edge is cargo: Ford lists up to 59.7 cubic feet of cargo behind the first row on Select, 59.1 on Premium, against 59.1 for the Blazer EV and 46.7 for the EV6.

Shop the as-tested Mach-E and the spreadsheet flips. $59,635 is Performance Model Y money, and it is past a well-optioned EV6 or Blazer EV. The Select still wins a pure price hunt if a buyer will take 260 miles, rear drive, and no frunk. That is a different brief from the 370-horsepower AWD SUV in Race Red.

Mach-E Sales Fell 54.9 Percent Through August

U.S. deliveries peaked at 56,337 in 2024, then slipped to 51,620 in 2025. Through August 2026 the sales tracker GoodCarBadCar counts 15,484 Mach-Es, against 34,319 in the same months of 2025, a 54.9 percent drop. August 2026 was 1,989. First-quarter 2026 was 4,600. Experian’s Q2 2026 retail registrations put the Mach-E at 2.3 percent of the U.S. EV market, fifth, behind the Model Y, Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Toyota bZ.

MACH-E U.S. DELIVERIES

  • 2024 peak: 56,337 units, the best calendar year on record.
  • 2025: 51,620 units, down 8.4 percent from that peak.
  • 2026 through August: 15,484 units, down 54.9 percent from 34,319 a year earlier.
  • August 2026: 1,989 units, among the weakest months of the run.

The 2025 leftovers that carried 0 percent financing are largely gone. What sits on lots now is the 2026 car at 2026 money. Ford still throws in a complimentary home charger with standard installation on a new EV, which is real money if a buyer has a garage. It does not rewrite a sales chart that has been falling since the federal credit faded and Ford said out loud that large, expensive battery EVs were no longer the plan.

HOW FORD SHRANK THE EV ROSTER

  1. December 15, 2025: Ford says production of the current F-150 Lightning has concluded, the next Lightning will be an EREV, and the company will take about $19.5 billion in special items.
  2. Late 2025: The planned next-generation electric commercial van for North America is dropped for a gas and hybrid van at Ohio Assembly.
  3. June 2026: Ford answers its own Q&A: the Universal EV platform will not be used for the Mustang Mach-E.
  4. 2027: Louisville Assembly is scheduled to start the first UEV vehicle, a midsize electric pickup, with Fathom preorders listed for early 2027 at a $28,350 starting MSRP.

Doug Field, Ford’s chief EV, digital and design officer, called the Lightning EREV “every bit as revolutionary” and hung 700-plus miles of estimated range on it. The Mach-E got none of that speech.

Fathom Is the $28,350 Truck Mach-E Will Not Become

Ford’s next cheap EV is not a second-generation Mach-E. Fathom is the first vehicle on the Universal EV platform, a midsize truck Ford lists from $28,350 before a $1,595 destination charge, with preorders opening in early 2027. In a Q&A on the UEV program, Ford was asked whether that platform would be used for a future Mustang Mach-E. The answer was no. “This platform was built from a clean sheet to maximize vehicle efficiency.”

So the crossover that survived the cull is also the one fenced off from the architecture Ford is using to get EV costs down. It can still be a good family SUV. The dual-motor car is fast enough, the 300-mile EPA number held up in a hot test week, and 59.7 cubic feet is a real grocery argument. Select at $37,795 is still the lowest sticker in that foursome if the buyer will live with 260 miles and rear drive.

Pay $59,635 for Race Red, two motors, the big battery, and a frunk Ford used to throw in, and the bargain that kept the Mach-E alive is no longer the car on the lot. The Mustang that made it through Ford’s EV winter is a quiet five-seater on last year’s platform, waiting while a $28,350 truck takes the cheap-EV job it was supposed to keep.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the 2026 Mach-E take to charge at home?

Ford lists 7.8 hours for the standard-range rear-drive model on a 48-amp charger and a 240-volt outlet, 7.7 hours for eAWD on that pack, and 9.9 hours for the 91-kWh GT. Those are empty-to-full estimates at home, not DC fast-charge times, which Ford peaks at 115 kW on standard-range cars and 150 kW on extended-range cars.

How much is all-wheel drive on the 2026 Mach-E Select?

Select with two motors is $40,795 before destination, $3,000 above the $37,795 rear-drive car, and EPA range drops from 260 miles to 240 miles on the 73-kWh pack. The extended-range battery on Select AWD has been listed at $5,250, which is $500 more than the $4,750 Ford charges for the same pack on Premium.

Does Ford include a home charger with the 2026 Mach-E?

Ford’s Power Promise still advertises a complimentary charger and standard installation when you buy or lease a new Ford EV, separate from the $500 mobile power cord on the options list. The wall unit is the one that matters for overnight charging; the cord is the travel backup.

How much horsepower does the 2026 Mach-E GT make?

GT is a dual-motor AWD model with the 91-kWh pack, 480 horsepower, 600 lb-ft of torque, and 280 miles of EPA range. Ford lists 700 lb-ft with the GT Performance Upgrade and a 3.3-second 0-60 mph time on the GT page, which is the quick figure the company puts on the Mach-E family billboard.

His habit is to open the document before the summary of it. A company result is read from the filing rather than the press release, a court or regulatory decision from the judgment itself, a scientific finding from the paper and its methods section rather than the headline claim, and a sporting sanction from the governing body's own ruling. That approach shapes coverage across news, business and technology as much as science, sports and entertainment, and it carries into the lifestyle, travel, auto and gaming pages, where product specifications are checked against the manufacturer's sheet and, where possible, against Harry's own testing.
