Oppo Prices the Pad Mini Above India’s iPad Mini

Oppo’s Pad Mini lands in India at ₹94,999, above the 256GB iPad mini, with a matte 144Hz OLED and one memory size.

Oppo put the Pad Mini Matte Display Edition on sale in India at ₹94,999 (about $1,003), a higher tag than Apple’s 256GB iPad mini. The only setup listed for India is 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, in Lavender Purple, with a Smart Case and stylus listed as free gifts and open sales due on October 29 through Flipkart and Oppo’s own store.

Malaysia opened preorders on October 22 at RM3,499 (about $857) for the same 8GB and 256GB pairing, with first deliveries listed for October 30. China still sells extra memory. That split is the launch.

A Pocket OLED With a Flagship Chip Inside

The international Pad Mini, model OPD2516, is an 8.8-inch (22.35 cm) slate Oppo pitches as a one-hand canvas. The India site leads on a 2.5K OLED Eye-Comfort Matte Display at 2,520 × 1,680 pixels, 344 PPI, and an adaptive refresh rate that tops out at 144Hz for some apps, with 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz steps beneath that.

Oppo’s own laboratory figures put typical brightness at 800 nits, high-brightness mode at 1,600 nits full screen, and peak local brightness at 3,200 nits. The panel is a flexible AMOLED with 10-bit colour, full DCI-P3, a 92.5% screen-to-body ratio, and 2.99mm bezels. Touch sampling reaches 240Hz at the top and sits at 125Hz by default.

PAD MINI AT A GLANCE

  • Body: About 194.38 × 132.38 × 5.46mm, and about 282g, in Lavender Purple only for this edition.
  • Chip and memory: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 with an Adreno 829 GPU at 1,225MHz, 8GB LPDDR5X, and 256GB UFS 4.1.
  • Battery: 8,000mAh typical (7,820mAh rated) with 67W SUPERVOOC charging, and a charger in the box.
  • Radios: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, and no cellular modem on the spec sheet.

ColorOS 16.0 sits on top, with facial recognition, dual speakers, a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera, and an 8MP f/2.0 front camera. Oppo says the pad can share a nearby Oppo phone’s 5G link without a hotspot, and that photos and files can move between Android and iOS. The company also claims up to 48 hours of mixed use, 19.5 hours of video playback, and four extra hours of video from a 10-minute charge, all from its labs.

OPPO India used the same 5.46mm and 282g figures when it posted the slate on October 22.

India Is Stuck With 8GB and 256GB

Singapore’s spec sheet lists a single memory pairing, 8GB of LPDDR5X and 256GB of UFS 4.1, and that is the only option on the India and Malaysia pages as well. There is no microSD slot, so 256GB is the ceiling once the system has taken its share.

China has sold the Pad Mini since April 30 with three kits: 8GB plus 256GB at 3,699 yuan (about $545), 12GB plus 256GB at 3,999 yuan, and 12GB plus 512GB at 4,499 yuan. The matte, or “soft light,” glass is a paid extra there, about 500 yuan, and it starts on the 12GB models. India and Malaysia are being offered the matte glass as the product, then asked to take the smallest memory map China sells.

That 8GB ceiling is the part that will age first. A compact tablet with a current Snapdragon chip is being sold as a sketching and editing pad, and those jobs chew RAM the moment a browser, notes app, and a reference image sit open together. China already priced the extra 4GB as a small step. The international SKU does not offer it.

People who have already used the Chinese Pad Mini keep putting the hardware in a ₹45,000 to ₹50,000 band. The India invoice is almost double that, which is why some buyers are asking friends to pick up a 12GB China unit rather than pay the local tag for less memory.

Why the Pad Mini Costs More Than an iPad Mini

Apple’s India store lists the Wi-Fi iPad mini from ₹69,900 for 128GB and the iPad mini Wi-Fi 256GB for ₹81,900. The 512GB Wi-Fi model is ₹1,05,900. A 256GB cellular mini is ₹99,900, which is the first Apple compact tablet that costs more than Oppo’s pad.

The Pad Mini undercuts that cellular mini by ₹4,901 and overshoots the 256GB Wi-Fi mini by ₹13,099. Against the 128GB Wi-Fi mini the gap is ₹25,099. Oppo is not sneaking in under Apple. It is parking a Wi-Fi Android slate above the Apple model with the same storage class.

COMPACT TABLET PRICES IN INDIA

Model Memory Price
OPPO Pad Mini (Wi-Fi) 8GB RAM, 256GB ₹94,999
iPad mini (Wi-Fi) 256GB ₹81,900
iPad mini (Wi-Fi) 128GB ₹69,900
iPad mini (Wi-Fi + Cellular) 256GB ₹99,900

Oppo lists the Smart Case at ₹3,999 and the stylus at ₹7,999 when it talks about the gifts. Those listed values add up to ₹11,998. Subtract them from the tablet price and the pad still sits at ₹83,001, which is ₹1,101 above the 256GB Wi-Fi iPad mini before anyone has paid for Apple’s pencil or folio.

The iPad mini is 8.3 inches, with a 60Hz Liquid Retina LCD and an A17 Pro chip. It does not have a 144Hz OLED, a matte writing surface, or 8,000mAh. It does have a mature stylus platform, cellular options, and a starting price that, even after Apple’s recent India increases, still undercuts this Oppo kit. At ₹94,999 the Pad Mini is a better shop-window for the iPad mini than for itself.

The Screen Oppo Wants You to Write On

Oppo’s compact-tablet pitch is the coating, not the diagonal. The company says the matte finish cuts reflections, holds a paper-like feel with a stylus, and is certified by TÜV Rheinland for Intelligent Eye Care 5.0 and Reflection Free. Minimum brightness is listed at 2 nits for night reading, with a Reader Mode, Natural Display 2.0, and a pastel colour path for long pages.

WHAT THE MATTE PANEL CLAIMS

  • Glare cut: Anti-reflection treatment plus outdoor visibility tuning, aimed at cafés and park benches rather than a dark sofa.
  • Writing feel: Paper-like friction for the OPPO Pencil 3 Pro, with pressure-sensitive strokes and a shortcut button for Smart Circle selection.
  • Night use: 2-nit floor, flicker tuning, and the matte layer working together so a late chapter does not blast the room.
  • AI notes: Circle-to-capture, sketch polish, meeting summaries, and an AI Mind Space that stores on-screen scraps with a three-finger swipe.

The India page names the OPPO Pencil 3 Pro, not a generic stick. Long-press the pencil, enter Smart Circle from the tool palette, and the pad can grab text and images, turn notes into diagrams, or finish a rough sketch. Free-Flow Windows can keep several apps on screen at once. That is the software argument for paying tablet money instead of phone money.

At just 5.46mm thin and 282g light, OPPO Pad Mini’s 8.8-inch compact design brings effortless elegance to the big-screen experience.

The box still ships a tablet, a charger, and a booklet. The pencil that makes the matte glass worth describing is a launch gift, not a packed-in tool. If the offer lapses, the writing story becomes an extra ₹7,999 decision.

Near-Flagship Silicon in a 282g Shell

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is the chip in phones such as the OnePlus 15R, built on TSMC’s 3nm node with a custom Oryon CPU at up to 3.8GHz in a 2+6 layout and an Adreno 829 GPU. Qualcomm lists 36% more CPU performance and 42% better CPU power use against the prior generation, plus 11% more graphics throughput and 28% better GPU efficiency. Oppo repeats those CPU and efficiency numbers on the Pad Mini page and adds a 46% NPU lift, citing Qualcomm.

It is not Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The Elite parts keep a faster GPU and a newer modem. RedMagic has already put that faster class into 9.06-inch OLED slates with 165Hz and 185Hz panels. Oppo’s mini uses the near-flagship chip, a 144Hz cap, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 rather than the 10Gbps port on those gaming slabs.

For notes, comics, and short edits, the 8 Gen 5 is plenty. For a ₹94,999 Wi-Fi tablet that cannot take a second storage card, the missing step is memory, not clocks. 8GB is the configuration China treats as the door price, not the one it sells to people who keep three windows open.

Malaysia’s RM3,499 Tag and a Gaming Rival

Malaysia’s RM3,499 list is about $146 below India’s converted tag for the same 8GB and 256GB matte unit. Preorders run from October 22 through October 29, and Oppo is bundling a Smart Case listed at RM199 (about $49) and a stylus listed at RM299 (about $73). First store collections and deliveries are scheduled for October 30, if stock is there.

That Malaysian number sits next to another compact OLED already on sale there. RedMagic’s Astra 2, a 9.06-inch 185Hz OLED with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and 12GB of RAM, has been offered on promotion from RM3,599. The Oppo pad is thinner, lighter, and built for a stylus. The gaming slate is faster, has more memory, and costs about the same on promo.

India does not get that comparison on a shop shelf in the same way. The local choice is this 8GB Pad Mini at ₹94,999, or an iPad mini that now starts at ₹69,900. Lenovo’s 8.8-inch Legion Tab class still exists in the grey channel, but it is an older Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 LCD, not a clean counter on Flipkart beside Oppo’s listing.

Oppo also launched the Find X10 phones and the Enco X4 earbuds on October 22, so the pad arrived as a side act in a camera-phone show. The tablet still has to justify a price that would look aggressive even as the headline product.

The Stylus Comes as a Launch Gift

India sales are listed for October 29 on Flipkart and the Oppo online store, one colour, one memory size. The Smart Case and stylus are free at checkout while the offer holds. Their listed values, ₹3,999 and ₹7,999, are not extra charges in the bundle; they are the numbers Oppo puts on the gifts.

FROM CHINA SALE TO INDIA SHELF

  1. April 30, 2026: China opens Pad Mini sales from 3,699 yuan for 8GB plus 256GB, with 12GB kits and a paid matte upgrade above that.
  2. October 14, 2026: Oppo confirms an India launch date of October 22 at 4:45pm IST for the Matte Display Edition, beside the Enco X4.
  3. October 22, 2026: India launch at ₹94,999; Malaysia preorders open at RM3,499.
  4. October 29, 2026: India open sale on Flipkart and Oppo’s store; Malaysia preorders close.
  5. October 30, 2026: First Malaysia deliveries and store collections, subject to stock.

The Pad Mini Matte Display Edition is the compact Android tablet the category has been short of: 8.8 inches, a coated OLED you can write on, a current Snapdragon chip, and a body that is 5.46mm thick. China already proved the hardware at 3,699 yuan. India is being asked to pay ₹94,999 for less RAM than Shanghai can buy, and still more than Apple wants for a 256GB iPad mini. Orders open October 29.
