X Routes Cashtag Trades Through Five Outside Brokers

X’s Cashtag Partner Program sends U.S. ticker taps to Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo, while X still never places the order.

X opened its U.S. Cashtag Partner Program on September 15, 2026, routing ticker taps to Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo. A supported cashtag still opens a price chart and related posts. A new Trade control then sends the user to a partner’s app or site to log in, or to open an account, and finish there.

X does not execute trades and does not hold customer assets in this flow. The five firms keep onboarding, custody, and the order. That split is the product, and it is also the business.

The Order Still Settles at the Broker

X Business posted the launch from New York the same day, naming Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase as the first Cashtag partners. Cashtags already turned ticker symbols for stocks, ETFs and cryptocurrencies into pages with live market talk. The partner program adds a path off those pages and onto a regulated venue.

Mridul Singhai, product engineering lead at X, put the pitch in one line.

Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself.

The company spelled out four moves, and none of them is an X-matched order.

HOW A CASHTAG TAP REACHES AN ORDER

  • Find the ticker: Search for or post a cashtag such as $BTC or $AAPL.
  • Stay on X first: Open the asset page for the chart, related posts, and, on iOS and the web, Big Charts for widely followed names including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Dogecoin, Hyperliquid, Tesla, Strategy and Coinbase.
  • Pick a firm: Use Trade to open a participating brokerage’s mobile app or web session, then sign in or register.
  • Finish elsewhere: Place the order at that firm, under its identity checks, product list, and local rules.

X has not published a full ticker roster. A cashtag can show a chart even when a given user cannot buy that asset at every listed partner, because eligibility follows the brokerage, not the social page.

Five Firms Share One Trade Button

The launch set mixes three crypto-native venues with two multi-asset brokers, so the same ticker page can point at very different order books. Coinbase has also added U.S. stocks and ETFs on its own platform, which means a cashtag for a share and a cashtag for a token can both resolve to the same brand. Kraken, which said it is an official X Cashtag launch partner in a September 16, 2026 note, told users the Trade control routes into its app or website and that the hook covers more than 2,400 tokens, including assets on Solana and Robinhood Chain.

LAUNCH PARTNERS AND WHAT THEY SELL

Partner Markets on the other side of Trade What the firm stressed
Coinbase Crypto, plus U.S. stocks and ETFs for eligible customers Named in X’s first partner group
Gemini Crypto Named in X’s first partner group
Kraken Crypto, more than 2,400 tokens Confirmed the U.S. route on September 16, 2026
Interactive Brokers Stocks, options, futures, currencies, and crypto tickers such as $BTC Pays new funded U.S. clients $100 through Cashtags
Moomoo Stocks, options, and crypto through regulated entities Pairs the feed with more than 150 analysis tools and over 2,000 education items

Neil McDonald, chief executive of Moomoo U.S., said the tie-up is meant to help users “make well-informed decisions in real-time.” That is a distribution claim dressed as a product claim: the feed already had the conversation, and Moomoo now wants the account that conversation creates.

Interactive Brokers Pays $100 for New Accounts

Interactive Brokers treated the same tap as an acquisition channel. New U.S. clients who open and fund a qualifying account through the Cashtag experience on X receive $100. Existing clients skip the bonus and land back in their IBKR session to research or place an order. Terms and eligibility apply, and X has not said whether it is paid when that account opens.

Tamara Makonnen, chief marketing officer at Interactive Brokers, described a direct path from X to trading in the firm’s September 15, 2026 release.

X is where many investors discover breaking news and exchange ideas. By connecting that experience to Interactive Brokers, we are creating a powerful new path from market insight to action.

Tamara Makonnen, Chief Marketing Officer, Interactive Brokers

A $100 funded-account bounty is the cleanest public signal of what the Trade button is worth to a broker. The social network captured the intent. The broker is bidding for the last click.

Canada Got the First Trading Link in April

The U.S. partner list is a second act. X spent the spring turning dollar-sign tickers into asset pages, then tested a single-broker hop in Canada before it sold a five-way hop to American users.

FROM CHARTS TO A U.S. TRADE BUTTON

  1. 2008: StockTwits introduces the cashtag format, a dollar sign in front of a ticker, for use on Twitter.
  2. April 14, 2026: X launches Smart Cashtags for iPhone users in the United States and Canada, with live charts, related posts, and support for crypto contract addresses. Canadian users get a trading link through Wealthsimple. U.S. users get data, not a U.S. brokerage tap.
  3. April 17, 2026: Nikita Bier, then X’s head of product, writes that aggregated data from the trading pilot shows X has driven an estimated $1 billion in global trading volume since the Tuesday night launch. That figure belongs to the April pilot, not to the September U.S. program, which has not published a volume number.
  4. August 2026: Bier, by then in an advisory role, says trade buttons are coming to cashtags, including crypto charts, and that third-party services will process the transactions.
  5. September 15, 2026: The U.S. Cashtag Partner Program goes live with five firms. X still does not match the trade.

Five months separate the Canadian Wealthsimple button from the American five-broker menu. The architecture did not change. The number of firms competing for the same tap did.

What Happens After You Tap Trade?

The published launch set does not include Robinhood. Kraken still said its cashtag route can reach tokens on Robinhood Chain, which is a reminder that a missing brand on the Trade sheet is not the same as missing the asset. Users who already keep a Robinhood, E*TRADE, or Backpack account still leave X and open that app the old way, unless they also open one of the five named partners.

Shortening the walk from a viral post to an order ticket is the feature brokers wanted and the risk the feed already had. A rumor, a chart, and a funded-account offer now sit on one page. The time a reader used to spend switching apps was also time to stop. That pause is thinner.

Monique Pintarelli, head of global advertising at SpaceXAI, said people come to X “to discover what’s happening, shape the conversation, and act in real-time on what matters to them,” and that Cashtag partners let them move to a brokerage “without breaking the moment.” The moment, on this platform, is often a meme, a leak, or a price spike. Brokers are paying to be inside it.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • The venue: Trades, custody, and account rules stay with the chosen partner, not with X.
  • The map: The program is limited to U.S. users, and X has not set a date for other countries.
  • The bid: Interactive Brokers is paying $100 to new U.S. clients who open and fund a qualifying account through Cashtags.

WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED

  • The cut: X has not disclosed referral payments, revenue share, or any fee when a user opens an account or trades.
  • The roster: No complete list of supported tickers has been published, and X has not said when more brokers will be added.
  • The next country: There is no timetable for copying the U.S. five-firm model outside the United States.

The louder question on the timeline is who owns the tap after the tweet. Fees and liquidity still matter at the brokerage. The new scarce thing is the button that appears while the post is still on screen.

X Money Does Not Execute These Orders

X has spent the year building a wallet track beside this brokerage track. X Money handles peer-to-peer transfers, direct deposits, a debit card, and yield on eligible balances. The company previously secured money-transmitter licenses across more than 40 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, and partnered with Visa for transfers between bank accounts and X Money wallets. Those rails move cash. They do not fill a stock or crypto ticket from a cashtag.

Keeping Cashtag trades at Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo lets X sell the hop from conversation to action without becoming the broker of record. It also leaves five firms to compete, in public, for the same heated second in the feed. Until X names a price for that click, the $100 IBKR bounty is the only sticker on the window.

A company result is read from the filing rather than the press release, a court or regulatory decision from the judgment itself, a scientific finding from the paper and its methods section rather than the headline claim, and a sporting sanction from the governing body's own ruling. That approach shapes coverage across news, business and technology as much as science, sports and entertainment, and it carries into the lifestyle, travel, auto and gaming pages, where product specifications are checked against the manufacturer's sheet and, where possible, against Harry's own testing.
