Vivo Bets on MediaTek as the X Fold 6 Goes Global
Vivo’s X Fold 6 goes on sale in Europe at €2,199 on MediaTek silicon and OriginOS 7, months after a much cheaper China launch.
Vivo put the X Fold 6 on sale in Europe on October 1 at €2,199, three months after the China launch, on a MediaTek chip and OriginOS 7 Fold. Germany, Austria, and Switzerland open on the company’s web shop the same day, and Spain is selling the phone with a launch cut.
China paid 8,999 yuan for the matching 12 GB and 512 GB model after the June 26 unveil. Europe gets one storage option, a 6,900 mAh listed cell instead of 7,000 mAh, and a newer skin. That is the wager.
€2,199 Buys the Only Global Storage Option
The China X Fold 6 went on sale on July 1 from 7,999 yuan for 12 GB and 256 GB, then 8,999, 9,999, and 10,999 yuan as RAM and storage stepped up. A Black Gold 16 GB and 1 TB trim sat at 11,299 yuan, with photography kits above that. Colors there included Blue Cave, Salt Lake, Extreme Night, and Black Gold.
Europe’s spec sheet lists a single build: 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.1 storage, with virtual RAM listed at 24 GB and no memory card slot. Prism Black and Horizon Blue are the two colors. Black uses a glass-fiber back, unfolds to 4.40 mm, folds to 9.40 mm, and weighs 228 g. Blue uses glass, unfolds to 4.80 mm, folds to 9.90 mm, and weighs 235 g.
CHINA LAUNCH VERSUS EUROPE SHOP
| Item | China (June 26) | Europe (October 1) |
|---|---|---|
| 12 GB + 512 GB price | 8,999 yuan | €2,199 list |
| Other storage options | 256 GB, 1 TB, 16 GB RAM | None listed |
| Battery (typical) | 7,000 mAh | 6,900 mAh |
| Software at launch | OriginOS 6 Fold, Android 16 | OriginOS 7 Fold, Android 17 |
| Colors | Four, plus Black Gold | Prism Black, Horizon Blue |
Spain’s shop applies a 10% launch discount that brings the phone to €1,979, and a photo bundle that adds the ZEISS kit lists at €2,399 before the same 10% cut to €2,159. Those are launch tags, not a second official price. The list figure stays €2,199.
MediaTek Spent Two Years on This Foldable Chip
Previous vivo book foldables used Qualcomm silicon. This one is the company’s first MediaTek foldable, and it is not a stock Dimensity 9500. Han Boxiao, a vivo product manager, said the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition had been in the works for more than two years and was built for multi-window work on a large inner screen. vivo claims peak AI compute is up 111% against the previous generation, with power use down 56%.
The clocks match MediaTek’s flagship sheet: one Arm C1-Ultra at 4.21 GHz, three C1-Premium cores at 3.5 GHz, and four C1-Pro cores at 2.7 GHz, on a 3 nm node, with an Arm Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU. RAM is LPDDR5X Ultra. MediaTek’s own 9500 page lists a Sub-6GHz 5G modem with no mmWave, and the European band list follows that, with n1 through n79 in the sub-6 set and no mmWave entries. That is a quiet limit for any later US pitch.
MediaTek says the 9500 is up to 32% faster in single-core work than the previous Dimensity flagship, with up to 55% better peak efficiency on the Ultra core and up to 33% more GPU throughput. The NPU 990 is the AI block behind vivo’s meeting recorder and file tools. For a €2,199 foldable, the company is asking European buyers to take that stack over the Snapdragon badge Samsung still prints on the Z Fold line.
A 200MP Main Camera and a Clip-On 200 mm Lens
vivo’s Europe statement frames the X Fold 6 as a camera foldable first. The rear trio is ZEISS-branded, the periscope is the first ZEISS APO telephoto vivo has put in a foldable, and the phone is the first vivo foldable that accepts a clip-on teleconverter. HyperZoom is rated to 100x. The main sensor is the Samsung HPB, 1/1.4-inch, with CIPA 4.5 stabilization and a ZEISS T* coating.
THE REAR CAMERAS AND THE CLIP-ON LENS
- Main camera: 200 MP, f/1.68, 1/1.4-inch Samsung HPB, OIS, ZEISS T* coating.
- Ultrawide: 50 MP, f/2.05, 1/2.76-inch sensor.
- Periscope telephoto: 50 MP Sony LYTIA 602, f/2.57, 1/1.95-inch, 3x optical, 70 mm equivalent, OIS.
- Clip-on extender: vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2, 200 mm equivalent, 2.35x, 96 mm long, 153 g, sold separately.
Both punch-hole cameras are 20 MP at f/2.4. The main rear camera records 8K, and the press materials add 4K 60 fps in Dolby Vision plus a Stage mode aimed at concerts. Night Flash Portrait is listed for low light. The extender works in Photo, Portrait, Landscape, Snapshot, Video, Stage, Time-Lapse, and Pro once the in-app switch is on. It is extra bulk in a bag, and it is the piece of this launch that does not exist on a Galaxy Z Fold 7.
What OriginOS 7 Fold Puts on the Inner Screen
The inner panel is an 8.02-inch M14 AMOLED at 2504 x 2312, 1 to 120 Hz, 5,000 nits local peak, 424 ppi. The cover is a 6.51-inch Q11 AMOLED at 2528 x 1120 with the same refresh range and peak. Both claim P3 color. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision sit on the spec list. Inner-panel supply still decides who can even ship a book foldable, a constraint that also hangs over Apple’s still-unreleased foldable iPhone.
Global units boot OriginOS 7 Fold software on Android 17. Vivo retired Funtouch OS and now ships OriginOS outside China. Origin Workbench keeps one main window and four auxiliary windows. Multi-Split Screen tiles up to four apps that can be resized. AI Cross-App Drag moves content between them. China phones launched on OriginOS 6 Fold and Android 16; those units join the OriginOS 7 queue from October 9.

vivo, OriginOS 7 Fold press materials, on AI Reader Mode
AI Meeting Assistant pairs an on-device recorder with live captions on calls. AI File Manager sorts documents. Jovi, the agent, is described as able to search and understand materials, generate content, and complete end-to-end office workflows from a voice command. Office Kit can throw a desktop-like workspace onto a monitor. The Europe product page lists Desktop Mode as an OTA feature, so that part is not being sold as a day-one switch.
6,900 mAh Fits in a 4.4 mm Shell
The European battery is two cells in parallel, 3,997 mAh and 2,903 mAh at 3.78 V, listed as a 6,900 mAh typical pack and 26.09 Wh. China advertised 7,000 mAh. The 100 mAh gap is a labelling split more than a new cell. Charging is 80W wired FlashCharge and 40W wireless, with reverse wireless on the sheet. The box includes a 100W (11V/9.1A) brick even though the phone tops out at 80W. A USB cable is not in the box. A case, a pre-applied film, and an eject tool are.
IP ratings on the EU sheet are IP58, IP59, IPX8, and IPX9 under IEC 60529. Dust is IP5X, and water covers immersion and high-pressure jets in the lab. vivo warns the seal is not permanent. A side fingerprint reader sits on the frame, and a customizable action button is on the hardware list, with stereo speakers, Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi 7, USB 3.2, NFC, an infrared blaster, and a barometer.
The pack is still huge for a book foldable that is 4.40 mm open in black. It is not the biggest cell in the vivo family. The company’s sub-brand just locked an 8,400 mAh iQOO 16 slab phone with 100W charging, which shows where the group puts capacity when it does not have to hide two screens in a hinge.
Samsung’s Fold Still Sets the Buying Default
Hardware on paper is the easy half of this bet. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, on sale since July 2025, still has the wider retail net, seven years of promised software, and a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy badge. Its battery is 4,400 mAh with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging, and the US list starts at $2,000. Honor’s Magic V5 brings a 5,820 mAh cell, 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, and a UK 16 GB / 512 GB tag around £1,699.99. Oppo’s Find N6 uses a 6,000 mAh pack and 80W charging, but its official footprint skips the UK, EU, and US.
BATTERY AND PRICE AGAINST THE FIELD
| Phone | Battery | Wired / wireless | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vivo X Fold 6 (Europe) | 6,900 mAh | 80W / 40W | €2,199 |
| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 | 4,400 mAh | 25W / 15W | $2,000 |
| Honor Magic V5 | 5,820 mAh | 66W / 50W | £1,699.99 (UK 16/512) |
Vivo is not undercutting Samsung on the European sticker. It is asking Fold money for a MediaTek chip, a China-first skin, and a camera kit Samsung does not sell. Service desks, trade-in desks, and carrier deals still sit with Samsung in most of those markets. That is the part of the wager the spec sheet cannot close.
Where the X Fold 6 Goes on Sale
Germany, Austria, and Switzerland start on October 1 through vivo’s official web shop. Selected Austrian stores follow on October 8. Spain’s official store is live the same day as the DACH shop, with Prism Black and Horizon Blue in that one 12 GB / 512 GB build. India has certifications and a rumored early-October window, but no confirmed date or rupee figure. The EU band list is not a US listing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Does the Global Vivo X Fold 6 Differ From the China Model?
The European pack is two cells, 3,997 mAh plus 2,903 mAh, rated 6,900 mAh typical and 26.09 Wh, against China’s 7,000 mAh headline. Global phones ship OriginOS 7 Fold on Android 17; China units launched on OriginOS 6 Fold and Android 16 and join OriginOS 7 from October 9. Europe lists only 12 GB and 512 GB with 24 GB of virtual RAM, while China sold 256 GB through 1 TB and 16 GB RAM trims.
What Is the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition?
It is a foldable-tuned version of MediaTek’s 3 nm Dimensity 9500, co-developed with vivo for more than two years, and the first MediaTek chip in a vivo book foldable. The CPU is 4.21 GHz plus 3.5 GHz plus 2.7 GHz, the GPU is Mali-G1 Ultra MC12, and vivo’s AI claims against the previous generation are a 111% peak-compute rise and a 56% power drop. Han Boxiao said the work targeted multi-window rendering on the inner display.
Does the Vivo X Fold 6 Support a ZEISS Teleconverter?
Yes. The vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2 screws the periscope path to a 200 mm equivalent at 2.35x, in a 96 mm, 153 g tube, and it is sold separately. The Europe photo bundle that includes the kit lists at €2,399 before launch discounts. The in-app teleconverter switch has to be on, and the extender is not compatible with every vivo flagship; the X500 Pro Max uses a longer 400 mm Ultra version that this foldable does not take.
What Is in the Vivo X Fold 6 Box?
A 100W charger ships in the box even though the phone’s wired ceiling is 80W, along with a case, a pre-applied protective film, an eject tool, a quick-start guide, and a warranty card. A USB cable is not included. Wireless 40W charging needs vivo’s 50W Vertical Wireless Flash Charger 2 or the iQOO equivalent; the first-generation 50W stand is listed as incompatible.
