Vivo V80 Takes Its 7,200mAh Battery Bet to India

Vivo will launch the V80 in India on October 6 at 12 PM, with a 7,200mAh battery and a 6.59-inch 1.5K OLED panel that can run at 144Hz. The company has not named a price or a processor.

Listings still point to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 that already sits in the V70. The summer leak sold a mid-August arrival. India waits until October, and vivo is asking the V line to land on battery, film looks and OriginOS 7 instead of a new chip.

October 6, 12 PM, and a Frozen Chip

vivo India set the clock on September 22: the V80 goes on stage at 12 PM on October 6, then onto vivo.com, Amazon, Flipkart and retail stores. Colours are Sunrise Anthem, Horizon Blue and Stellar Black. The rear is one-piece cold-carved glass with a floating camera island.

The battery is the number vivo wants in the room. The company calls the 7,200mAh pack the largest battery on a V-Series phone, up 700mAh from the V70’s 6,500mAh cell, about 11%. Charging stays at 90W FlashCharge. vivo says a lab run hits 50% in 30 minutes in Fast Charging Mode, with up to 14 hours of navigation and 39.5 hours of local video.

The screen is the other hard upgrade. Refresh rises from 120Hz on the V70 to 144Hz, and vivo notes that 144Hz holds only in supported apps. Local peak brightness is 5,000 nits, the floor is 1 nit, the panel is quoted at 1.07 billion colours, and the bezels are 1.25mm.

Software is OriginOS 7 on Android 17, the first V-series phone to ship that skin. vivo lists Pet Pals, Snap Note, StickIt, Wiggle Theme and Security Shield, plus six years of security updates and 100GB of Google One for six months. The chip, RAM cuts and street price are still missing from the teasers.

The Mid-August Leak Landed in October

Tipster Sanju Choudhary put a mid-August India window on the July leak that first sketched the V80, with the same 7,200mAh figure and a 144Hz panel. That calendar did not hold for India. China had already put a closely related S60 on sale in early June. India got sneak peeks in Lucknow on September 26 and Bengaluru on September 27, then a date.

THE V80’S PATH TO THE STAGE

The wait is the bet. A phone that was supposed to land as a summer battery story now arrives as a festive-season camera phone, after weeks of 4K film-look clips and almost no talk of the processor.

What Vivo Has Confirmed Before the Event

The camera stack is the other half of the pitch, co-engineered with ZEISS Optics. The main sensor is a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700V, 1/1.56-inch, with OIS. The 50MP Night Telephoto uses a 1/1.95-inch Sony IMX882, with OIS, 3x optical zoom and up to 100x zoom. Up front is a 50MP ZEISS Group Selfie camera with autofocus and a 92-degree field of view. vivo also lists a ZEISS ultra-wide on the rear without putting a megapixel count on the India activity page; leaks have long had that lens at 8MP.

Video is 4K Cinematic Video and 4K at 60fps. vivo is bundling more than 30 AI camera tools, including AI Diwali Portrait 2.0, Live Sticker Collage, Pet Pals, Snap Note and Security Shield. The India page is selling portraits and reels, not benchmark charts.

WHAT WE KNOW

• The date: October 6, 2026, at 12 PM, then vivo.com, Amazon, Flipkart and offline stores.
• The cell: 7,200mAh with 90W FlashCharge, 50% in 30 minutes in Fast Charging Mode, per vivo’s lab figures.
• The panel: 6.59-inch 1.5K OLED, 144Hz in supported apps, 5,000 nits local peak, 1 nit minimum.
• The cameras: 50MP LYTIA 700V main, 50MP IMX882 3x telephoto, 50MP front, ZEISS ultra-wide, 4K at 60fps.

WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED

• The chip: Geekbench and spec listings name Snapdragon 7 Gen 4; vivo’s India teasers do not.
• The price: vivo will read it out on October 6; a tipster has already posted three cuts.
• The memory map: RAM and storage combinations are still a listing game, including an 8GB plus 128GB cut the V70 never used as its opener.
• The ratings: IP68 and IP69, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader and a metal frame are widely listed and still unofficial in the teasers.

Listings that fill those blanks put the V80 at 7.69mm and 203g, against 7.59mm and 194g for the V70, so the extra 700mAh costs about 0.1mm and 9g on paper. Those figures are not from vivo’s India page.

VIVO’S LAB BATTERY CLAIMS

• Capacity: 7,200mAh, which vivo calls the largest cell it has put in a V-series phone.
• Top-up: 50% in 30 minutes at 90W in Fast Charging Mode, same wattage as the V70.
• Navigation: up to 14 hours of continuous navigation in vivo’s tests.
• Video: up to 39.5 hours of local video playback in those same tests.

None of those runtimes have been checked in a third-party lab on a retail India unit, because that unit does not exist until after October 6.

China Already Sold This Body With a Faster Chip

The July chatter treated the V80 as a global badge on China’s S60. The bodies rhyme: 6.59-inch 1.5K OLED, 144Hz, 7,200mAh, 90W, a 50MP main plus 50MP 3x telephoto plus 8MP ultra-wide, IP68 and IP69, ultrasonic fingerprint. The chip does not rhyme.

The S60, announced on May 29 and sold from June 3, uses Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and Adreno 735. India’s own V70 Elite, launched on February 19 at Rs 51,999 for 8GB plus 256GB, already uses that faster chip. The vanilla V70 uses Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 and opened at Rs 45,999 (about $505) for 8GB plus 256GB, with 12GB plus 256GB at Rs 49,999. Listings for the V80 point back to 7 Gen 4, model SM7750-AB, a TSMC 4nm octa-core with a 2.8 GHz prime core and Adreno 722.

Qualcomm’s own sheet for that platform still sells it as a mid-range step, not a flagship:

Our 27% improved CPU reaches peak speeds up to 2.8 GHz, aided by a 30% improved GPU for faster graphics rendering.

Those 27% CPU, 30% GPU and 65% AI gains are against Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, the previous 7-series chip, not against the 8s Gen 3 already in the V70 Elite and the S60. If the listings are right, India is being offered the S60’s battery and cameras on the V70’s silicon. vivo’s China pages still quote a typical capacity of 7,200mAh for the related S60 Vitality Edition, so the cell itself is not an India exclusive. The slower chip would be.

A Series Record in a 7,000mAh Market

vivo can say 7,200mAh is a V-series record and be accurate. It cannot say the number is rare. A product database covering the Indian market listed 151 phones with 7,000mAh batteries in October 2026. vivo’s own T5 Pro is listed at 9,020mAh. OnePlus put 9,000mAh in the Nord 6. Realme’s P4 Power is listed at 10,001mAh. Flagships in the same year have already walked into the 7,000mAh club, including a 7,300mAh OnePlus 15 and a 7,500mAh OPPO Find X9 Pro.

CELLS THAT ALREADY OUTGUN THE V80

• vivo T5 Pro: 9,020mAh, inside vivo’s own India line and well above the V-series record the V80 is about to claim.
• OnePlus Nord 6: 9,000mAh, a mid-range pack that makes 7,200mAh look like a midpoint, not a ceiling.
• Realme P4 Power: 10,001mAh, the kind of round number that now sits on budget power shelves.
• V80 Lite listings: a Middle East shop listing for a V80 Lite quotes a 10,000mAh cell and 44W charging, which would put a bigger battery under the same V80 name at a lower wattage.

That last listing is a shop card, not a vivo India spec sheet, and it should be read that way. It still shows why a 7,200mAh headline from July lands softer in October. The official India feed has already moved on. On October 2, vivo India posted a 4K cinematic clip and almost no battery talk:

The summer leak led with endurance. The October event is being dressed as film look, Night Telephoto and festive portraits. The 7,200mAh cell is still in the deck. It is no longer the only number in the aisle.

Leaked Prices Sit Above the V70 Elite

vivo has said the price comes on October 6. Tipster Abhishek Yadav posted three India cuts before that, and they sit well above the V70. He has the opener at Rs 63,000 for 8GB plus 128GB, then Rs 70,000 for 8GB plus 256GB and Rs 80,000 for 8GB plus 512GB. He did not say whether those figures are launch offers or MRP before bank discounts.

If the 8GB plus 256GB cut really is Rs 70,000, that is about Rs 24,000 above the V70’s Rs 45,999 for the same memory. It is also above the V70 Elite’s Rs 51,999 opener, a phone that already has Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. The V80 leak also introduces an 8GB plus 128GB SKU the V70 never used as its base, which is a way to print a lower sticker without matching last year’s storage.

Those V80 rupee figures are a tip, not a price card. vivo can undercut them on stage and still charge more than February. It can also ship a V80 Elite later and keep 8s Gen 3 in the family. Nothing in the teasers promises that split.

The October 6 event has to do two jobs at once. It has to justify a V-series record battery in a year when 7,000mAh is a shelf standard, and it has to put a number on a phone whose chip, if the listings are honest, is the one buyers already know from the V70. OriginOS 7, 144Hz and the ZEISS 4K kit are the extras vivo can still point at. The rupees, and the chip name, are the part of the bet that is still uncalled.
