Peter Brandt Posts a $5.40 XRP Chart, Not a Trade
Longtime trader Peter Brandt posted an XRP chart implying $5.40, then warned it is not a trade, after the Clarity Act failed 49-50.
Peter Brandt posted a monthly XRP chart on September 21, 2026, that he said implies an eventual advance to $5.40, with the token then near $1.54 after an 8.7% jump. He spent the rest of the same post warning that a chart is not a trade, and that an X post is not proof of one.
Bitcoin had already pushed to an eight-month high of $87,000. Large XRP wallets had been buying for days. The U.S. Senate had just failed to open debate on the Clarity Act. The chart still did the rounds as a $5 call.
Brandt’s $5.40 Chart Comes With a Built-In Disclaimer
Brandt, who runs The Factor Report and has more than a million followers on X, published the long-term monthly chart at 20:43 GMT. Bitcoin.com Markets had XRP at $1.54, up 8.7% on the session, after a $1.41 to $1.57 range. From $1.54, the $5.40 line is a 251% gain, more than triple the print on the day he posted.

A claim of a ‘call’ or simple presentation of a chart is NOT a trade. People who claim ‘trades’ need to provide proof or else the claims are BS. An X post is NOT proof

He entered the commodity trading business in 1976 and founded Factor Trading in 1980, a shop built on classical chart work and his own capital. That history is why the $5.40 figure travels. It is also why the second paragraph of the post matters. He did not publish entries, stops, or a filled ticket. He published a picture and a number, then told readers not to treat the picture as a position.
Raoul Pal, the Real Vision founder who first sent Brandt a Bitcoin chart in 2016, replied that he cannot believe Brandt has to hedge every call with a line that it is not a trade recommendation, and that observations and probabilities get lost on the platform. The reply names the split in the post. One half is a path to $5.40. The other half is a refusal to be quoted as being in it.
In August He Offered to Dump 500,000 XRP for Bitcoin
On August 15, 2026, with XRP slipping around the $1 mark, Brandt answered a challenge from the XRP crowd by asking who even cares about the token. He said he does his betting in futures, doubted a private wager would get paid if he won, and added that he could not care less about owning half a million XRP because he would convert it immediately to Bitcoin. That was 37 days before the $5.40 chart.
The August line was not a one-off jab. In December 2025 he grouped XRP holders with silver bulls as the perma-bulls he found most biased. In October 2025 he had publicly treated XRP as a short candidate toward $2.20, then flipped to a long-term bullish chart days later. He has also, in other years, talked about offering an olive branch after years of hard shots at the asset. The pattern is a trader who will post a bullish XRP structure when the chart, in his method, says so, and who will mock the same holders when the tape does not.
THE DATES AROUND THE $5.40 POST
- August 15, 2026: Says he would convert 500,000 XRP into Bitcoin at once.
- September 15, 2026: Senate cloture on the Clarity Act fails 49-50.
- September 19, 2026: Ali Martinez cites Santiment data showing large wallets adding about 1.54 billion XRP in 96 hours.
- September 21, 2026: XRP trades near $1.54; Brandt posts the $5.40 monthly chart.
Holders reading the new chart as a conversion miss that sequence. He can publish a $5.40 implied advance and still mean he would rather hold Bitcoin. Those two statements sat on the same account inside five weeks, and he wrote both in public.
What Stands Between $1.54 and $5.40?
The near tape is not $5.40. Crypto analyst Ali Martinez, posting as Ali Charts, said XRP had rallied 8.22% in three days after whales bought, and that on-chain data still left room. He pointed to UTXO realized price distribution that, in his words, shows little resistance ahead until $1.60, where roughly 2.50 billion XRP previously changed hands. He called $1.60 the next major level he was watching for profit-taking.
THE PRINTS BETWEEN $1.54 AND BRANDT’S LINE
| Level | Move from $1.54 | What sits there |
|---|---|---|
| $1.60 | About 4% | Roughly 2.50 billion XRP last changed hands, per Martinez’s URPD read |
| $3.65 | 137% | CoinGecko record, July 17, 2025 |
| $5.40 | 251% | Brandt’s implied long-term advance |
A holder already sitting in XRP for seven or eight years replied under Brandt’s post that he would sell another 10% to 15% if the token hit $3, and another 15% at $5. That is the supply the $5.40 chart has to climb through: people who have waited years and will lighten into strength long before a 251% run is complete. Inside the same thread, others treated $5.40 as too modest and joked about marking $5.89 instead. The crowd that wanted a Brandt blessing is already arguing the number is low.
The 49-50 Vote Did Not Touch XRP’s Legal Floor
Six days before the chart, the Senate failed to invoke cloture on the Clarity Act, the market-structure bill that would have split oversight between the SEC and the CFTC. The roll call was 49-50 on September 15, 2026, short of the 60 votes needed to open debate. Every Democrat present voted no. Republican senators Josh Hawley and Jerry Moran also voted no, citing stablecoin yield. Thom Tillis switched to no as a procedural step so a motion to reconsider could still be filed.
THE CLARITY VOTE IN FOUR LINES
- The tally: 49 yes, 50 no, one senator not voting.
- The bar: 60 votes to open floor debate, not a final pass.
- The date: September 15, 2026, in the afternoon Eastern session.
- XRP’s separate track: Ripple says the token’s U.S. status did not move with that count.
XRP had been talked up as a name that would benefit if the bill advanced, given Ripple’s long fight with U.S. regulators. After the vote, the token still rallied with the rest of the tape. The chart Brandt posted does not mention Washington. It does not need to. The political event that was supposed to re-rate XRP had already failed, and the price was still going up on whale flow and a Bitcoin bid.
Whale Wallets Added 1.54 Billion Tokens in 96 Hours
Martinez’s September 19 Santiment snapshot is the more specific whale tape under the rounded “more than $2 billion” line he used two days later. Large holders added about 1.54 billion XRP in 96 hours, worth about $2.2 billion at the prices in that note, and the tracked group’s holdings rose to about 9.81 billion XRP. Wallet adds of that size show demand. They do not show whether those wallets will still be holding at $1.60, let alone at $5.40.
THE BID UNDER THE RALLY
- Whale add: About 1.54 billion XRP in 96 hours, worth about $2.2 billion.
- Group bag: Tracked large wallets at about 9.81 billion XRP after the buying.
- Spot ETFs: U.S. spot XRP funds had more than $923 million in net inflows as of September 18, per CoinGlass, with Bitwise at about $377 million.
- Same-day plumbing: Absa, the South African bank, launched a digital-asset custody service on Ripple technology on September 21, 11 months after the firms announced the partnership.
CoinGecko-linked market pages put circulating supply near 62.88 billion XRP, with a 100 billion cap, and ranked the asset fifth. An 8.7% session can still be a squeeze, a catch-up bounce, or the start of a trend. The whale print and the ETF flows are the hard bids. They get XRP through $1.50. They do not, on their own, pay for a run through the July 2025 record and then another 48% on top of that record to $5.40.
Ripple’s Court Win Still Does the Work the Bill Did Not
Ripple’s own note after the Senate vote is blunter than most of the market chat. The firm called the failed bill a missed chance for consumers and U.S. competitiveness, then drew a hard line under XRP. The company says it spent years and more than $150 million fighting in court, won a 2023 ruling that XRP is not a security, and then got firmer footing in March 2026 when the SEC and CFTC issued a joint interpretation naming XRP a digital commodity.
“Ripple and XRP stand on settled ground,” the company wrote. It also said the House version of the bill had secured 78 Democratic votes and asked why that text was not the Senate starting point. For XRP holders, the practical point is narrower. The token’s U.S. legal file is already a court win plus an agency note. The Clarity Act was extra statutory cover for the whole sector, not the first time XRP got a label.
That is the hidden split in this week’s tape. Brandt’s chart is a technical structure. Ripple’s letter is a legal one. Neither depends on a 60-vote Senate. The people treating $5.40 as a policy payout are arguing a bill that already lost.
A New High Would Still Require a 251% Rally
CoinGecko’s record for XRP is $3.65 on July 17, 2025. Brandt’s $5.40 line sits about 48% above that high. At 62.88 billion coins outstanding, $5.40 is about $340 billion of market value, against roughly $97 billion at $1.54. Those are not Brandt’s numbers. They are what the target implies if circulating supply holds near today’s figure.
He did not date the $5.40 print. He said “eventual.” The monthly chart is a years-long object, not a three-day whale tape. Martinez’s $1.60 level is the one that can fail or hold in a single session. Until XRP spends time above that 2.50 billion-coin node, the $5.40 picture is still a drawing of a move that has not started on the scale he mapped.
Brandt has been right on painful Bitcoin turns, including the 2018 top and the 2022 slide toward the mid-teens. He has also posted XRP views that reversed inside days. His own rule, written under the $5.40 chart, is that the public gets the picture and not the fill. The next number that would make the picture more than a picture is $1.60, where a few billion coins already have a memory of changing hands.
