Nikon Z5IIC Drops the Viewfinder for Full-Frame Creators
Nikon’s Z5IIC full-frame body is Rs 1,39,995 in India, but the cheaper sticker comes without a viewfinder, a second card slot or last year’s denser screen.
Nikon India priced the Z5IIC full-frame body at Rs 1,39,995, and the camera that arrives in mid-October 2026 leaves the electronic viewfinder off the top plate. It keeps the 24.5-megapixel sensor and EXPEED 7 processor from last year’s Z5II. Buyers compose on a 3.2-inch screen the way they already do on a phone.
Nikon Took the Viewfinder Off a Full-Frame Body
On 24 September 2026, Nikon Corporation said the Z5IIC delivers the same performance level as the Z5II, the full-frame body it released in April 2025. The Tokyo note talks about a smooth, streamlined top that slips in and out of a bag, and a touchscreen that works “just as on a smartphone.” It never uses the word viewfinder.
The US materials are plainer. Omitting the finder shrinks the body and, Nikon Inc. says, keeps users connected to what is going on around them. The C in the name is being sold as casual. Black and silver finishes are both on the list.
The Z5IIC measures 134 x 80.5 x 72 mm and is rated at 620 g with battery. The 3.2-inch vari-angle monitor is the only finder. Reviewers who have used pre-production bodies also note that the AF joystick is gone, so focus points move by touch or the direction pad.
WHAT NIKON CUT FROM THE Z5II
| Feature | Z5II (India listing) | Z5IIC |
|---|---|---|
| Viewfinder | 3,690k-dot OLED EVF | None |
| Rear screen | 3.2-inch, about 2.1 million dots | 3.2-inch, 1.04 million dots |
| Card slots | Two UHS-II SD | One UHS-II SD |
| India body MRP | Rs 1,64,495 | Rs 1,39,995 |
That screen cut is the quieter one. The Z5IIC panel is about half as dense as the Z5II’s 2,100k-dot monitor, which is a real cost when the screen is the only place to focus and review. Magnesium alloy still sits in key areas, and the body is built with dust- and drip-resistance in mind.
Fifteen Scene Modes Sit on a Full-Frame Dial
This is Nikon’s first full-frame mirrorless camera with scene modes on the mode dial. There are 15 scene modes, covering portraits, pets and food as well as night landscapes and twilight. Pick a scene and the camera adjusts more than six settings, including white balance and Picture Control.
A dedicated button recalls Imaging Recipes, the in-camera colour looks Nikon and invited creators publish through the cloud. AUTO mode can recognise a subject and a scene, then set aperture, shutter, ISO and autofocus without a meter reading from the user. Film Grain, first seen on the Zf in October 2023, is here for a nostalgic still or clip, with limits during video.
That is a full-frame body wearing the beginner tools Nikon used to keep on crop cameras and compact kits. People who already know P, S, A and M still have those modes. People who do not can stay on the scene dial and never learn them.
The Nikon Z5IIC represents an important step in expanding access to full-frame photography for a new generation of creators.
Fumiko Kawabata, Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc.
Sajjan Kumar, managing director of Nikon India, said the body is built for lifestyle, travel, tech and short-form creators, for people moving up from APS-C, and for a first mirrorless camera. The pitch is the same in Delhi and Melville: make the full-frame jump feel like a phone, then lock the buyer into NIKKOR Z glass.
What the Z5IIC Costs in India
The India MRP is Rs 1,39,995 for the body only, with sales through Nikon outlets from mid-October 2026. In the United States the body is $1,399.95, or $1,699.95 with the NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3. Nikon India has not posted an India kit price on the announcement.
On Nikon India’s own shop, the camera this one is cut from is still for sale. The Z5II body listed at Rs 1,64,495 carries an offer price of Rs 1,54,495, tax in. That is Rs 24,500 above the Z5IIC list, or Rs 14,500 above it after the current Z5II offer. You pay that gap for the EVF, the denser screen and the second card slot.
INDIA BODY PRICES
| Camera | Sensor | Viewfinder | India body price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z5IIC | Full-frame, 24.5MP | No | Rs 1,39,995 MRP |
| Z5II | Full-frame, 24.5MP | Yes | Rs 1,64,495 MRP (offer Rs 1,54,495) |
| Z50II | APS-C | Yes | Rs 85,245 |
| Sony ZV-E1 | Full-frame, 12.1MP | No | Rs 2,23,490 MRP |
Nikon’s own APS-C step, the Z50II, is Rs 85,245 for the body on that shop, Rs 54,750 below the Z5IIC. The Z50II still has a finder. The Z5IIC asks that extra money for a larger sensor, in-body VR the DX bodies still lack, and a screen-only way of shooting.
The Same Sensor as Last Year’s Z5II
The imaging core is not the bargain. A backside-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor and EXPEED 7, the processor in Nikon’s flagship bodies, sit behind the new top plate. Deep-learning autofocus covers 10 subject types, now including fish, though fish are detected only when that subject class is selected. Focus is claimed down to -10 EV, which is the concert, dinner and night-street brief.
Five-axis in-body VR is rated at up to 7.5 stops at the centre of the frame and 6.0 stops at the edges, under CIPA 2024 tests with the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S at the telephoto end in NORMAL mode. That number matters more on a body with no eyepiece to brace against the face. Continuous shooting reaches about 14 fps, with High-Speed Frame Capture+ at up to 30 fps and Pre-Release Capture holding up to one second before the shutter, fixed at JPEG L and NORMAL.
THE Z5IIC STILL SHOOTS
- Sensor: 24.5-megapixel full-frame BSI CMOS with the EXPEED 7 engine from the Z8 and Z9 line.
- Stabilisation: 5-axis IBIS, 7.5 stops centre, 6.0 stops at the edges, CIPA 2024 with the 24-120mm f/4 S.
- Autofocus: 10 subject types including fish, working down to -10 EV, plus 3D tracking carried over from the Z5II.
- Burst: About 14 fps, plus 30 fps High-Speed Frame Capture+ with one second of pre-release on JPEG L/NORMAL.
NIKON FULL-FRAME STEPS
- October 2023: The Zf introduces the Film Grain function the Z5IIC now carries.
- April 2025: Nikon releases the Z5II with EXPEED 7, dual UHS-II slots and a 3,690k-dot EVF.
- 24 September 2026: Nikon announces the Z5IIC, a flat-top Z5II with scene modes on the dial and no finder.
- Mid-October 2026: India sales start at Nikon outlets, body only at Rs 1,39,995.
Hands that already shoot Nikon will notice what stayed. Hands that shoot phones will notice that the new modes live on the dial, not in a buried menu.
N-RAW, a Rec Lamp and a Thinner Screen
Video is where the cut-down body still looks like a working camera. It records 4K UHD at up to 60 fps with the image area cropped to DX, and full-width 4K at up to 30p. Full HD goes to 120 fps. Slow motion is 4x from 1080/30p or 25p, and 5x from 1080/24p, so a short clip can leave the camera already slowed down.
CREATOR TOOLS ON THE BODY
- Product Review Mode: Focus shifts to an item brought close to the lens, the unboxing move.
- REC lamp: A lamp and a red frame on the monitor show when a clip is rolling.
- N-RAW and N-Log: 12-bit N-RAW and H.265 10-bit with N-Log write to a single SD card; Nikon recommends V90 cards for RAW.
- Webcam: UVC/UAC over USB, no extra capture dongle, plus SnapBridge 2.14 for phone transfer and in-app shooting tips.
Recipes download through Imaging Recipes from Nikon Imaging Cloud, then sit under that dedicated button. The cloud also handles photo transfer and firmware. The single UHS-II slot is the professional tax. There is no second card for backup, and no overflow to a spare.
The LCD complaint from people who have held the camera is not ideology. Manual focus and playback on 1.04 million dots, in hard light, with no EVF to duck into, is a different job from the Z5II’s 2.1 million-dot panel plus an eyepiece. Phone-trained shooters already live on a rear screen, including, in camera classes, some older students who never picked up the finder habit. Bright sun and a need for a third point of contact still argue the other way.
Sony’s Vlog Body Still Costs More
The screen-first full-frame idea is not Nikon’s. Sony has sold the ZV-E1 full-frame vlog camera in India with a 12.1-megapixel sensor and no EVF, at an MRP of Rs 2,23,490, which is Rs 83,495 above the Z5IIC list. The ZV-E1 is smaller and built as a talk-to-camera body. The Nikon is heavier, still has a proper grip, and writes N-RAW internally on a 24.5-megapixel stills sensor.
That is the trade Nikon is making. You do not get Sony’s smaller shell. You do get stills resolution, mechanical shutter, and the same EXPEED 7 autofocus stack as a Z8, on a body that costs less than Sony’s vlog flagship in India. Existing Nikon shooters have been cool about the missing eyepiece. The people this body is for are coming from phones, or from Fujifilm’s X line, not from a Z8 bag.
Nikon France put the same beginner line on the launch post, with a flat-top product shot and no finder in the silhouette.

Fish detection is an easy joke and a real aquarium tool. One Z5II owner who already photographs arowana wanted that class as a firmware gift on the camera with a finder, not as a reason to buy a new body with a worse screen. That is the split in miniature.
A Camera Built for People Who Never Lift It
The Z5IIC is a full-frame Nikon that is honest about who holds cameras now. If the buyer already frames on glass at eye level, the Z5II is still on the same Indian price list, finder and dual slots included, for Rs 14,500 more at the current offer. If the buyer never lifts a camera to the eye, scene modes, recipes, a rec lamp and Product Review Mode are the product, and the missing hump is the point.
Black or silver bodies are due at Nikon outlets from mid-October 2026, at Rs 1,39,995 for the body. The glass you put on the front is still the long bill.
