U.S. Galaxy S26 Phones Get One UI 9 Without Android QPR1
T-Mobile Galaxy S26 phones now get One UI 9, a 4,183.46 MB Android 17 build that skips Pixel QPR1 and still leaves unlocked units waiting.
T-Mobile Galaxy S26 phones started getting stable One UI 9 on September 23, a 4,183.46 MB Android 17 package. South Korea got the same software on September 16. Unlocked units, plus AT&T and Verizon, still had no confirmed build by September 24.
The wait did not buy Google’s September quarterly. One UI 9 on these phones is still the first Android 17 release, the one Pixel owners received in June.
T-Mobile Opened the U.S. Gate on September 23
Early screenshots came from T-Mobile Galaxy S26 Ultra phones. Firmware trackers later put the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ on the same carrier wave. The package is a staged OTA, so two T-Mobile Ultras in the same city can still disagree about whether Settings shows a download.
That order is backwards from what unlocked buyers usually expect. Factory-unlocked Galaxy phones often get major software before carrier-branded units finish testing. This time the locked T-Mobile model moved first, and the unlocked S26 sat on One UI 8.5 while a magenta SIM tray got Android 17.
THE T-MOBILE ULTRA BUILD
- Build string: S948USQU4BZID / S948UOYN4BZID / S948USQU4BZID, ending in BZID.
- Carrier code: TMB, the T-Mobile U.S. CSC on the first confirmed packages.
- Security patch: September 5, 2026, matching Google’s 2026-09-05 patch level.
- Models in the wave: Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra on T-Mobile.
The firmware listing also pulls in the fixes from Google’s September 2026 Android security bulletin. That bulletin’s worst item is a critical System bug that can lead to remote code execution with no extra privileges. Installing the OTA is the practical way a T-Mobile S26 picks up that set.
Pixels Already Have Android 17 QPR1
Google put Android 17 on Pixel phones on June 16, with the June Pixel Drop with Android 17. That is 99 days before T-Mobile’s S26 package. Pixel software then moved again on September 15, when Android 17 QPR1 shipped with the September feature drop.
Korea’s S26 stable build arrived one day after that quarterly. The U.S. T-Mobile build arrived eight days after it. Samsung did not rebase One UI 9 on QPR1. Galaxy S26 owners get the Android 17 features Google listed in June, such as Bubbles for floating apps, tighter PIN guess limits, and the new foldable game layout, plus Samsung’s own shell. They do not get the QPR1 interface pass Pixel already applied, including extra system blur, a carousel media player, and a bouncier Quick Settings motion.
One UI replaces so much of Android’s chrome that some of those Pixel-only polish items would never have shown up the same way. The platform gap is still real. The S26 is joining Android 17 after Google has already started the next 90-day train.
WHEN EACH FLAGSHIP GOT ANDROID 17
| Device | Software | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel phones | Android 17 | June 16, 2026 |
| Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, Flip8 | One UI 9 at launch | July 22, 2026 |
| Pixel phones | Android 17 QPR1 | September 15, 2026 |
| Galaxy S26 series, South Korea | One UI 9 stable | September 16, 2026 |
| Galaxy S26 series, T-Mobile U.S. | One UI 9 stable | September 23, 2026 |
Google told other Android makers that Pixel would go first and that the rest of the phones would follow through 2026. Samsung’s slab flagship is in that second group, even though the S26 is the company’s current S-series lead.
A July Head Start for the Z Fold8 Family
Stable One UI 9 did not wait for the S26. Samsung put it on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 when those phones were unveiled on July 22. Foldable sales on August 7 then put that software in shops across 106 markets. From that on-sale date to T-Mobile’s S26 package is 47 days. From the Unpacked stage to the same package is 63 days.
The Galaxy S26 FE, introduced on August 27, also shipped with One UI 9. The cheaper Fan Edition and the new foldables both ran the finished skin while U.S. S26 owners were still on the last One UI 8.5 build, or on a beta.
Samsung opened that beta for the S26 series on May 12, 127 days before the Korean stable drop. The test window was long. The finished code still followed the foldables, then paused for carrier and country gates.
What One UI 9 Puts on the Galaxy S26
Samsung’s September 16 newsroom note is the feature list that matters, because it is the one the company attached to the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra. The tools first showed up on the new foldables, then moved to the slab phones with the same One UI 9 train.
My FanCam automatically tracks a selected person in a recorded video and keeps them centered, intelligently reframing the footage as the scene moves.

You shoot a wide clip first, then pick the person later in Gallery. The phone outputs a tighter cut in the aspect ratio you choose. Samsung says it needs a Samsung account, and it will not run if the clip has no subject to follow.
ONE UI 9 ON THE S26, PER SAMSUNG
- My FanCam: Tracks a chosen person in a clip you already shot and reframes them for social sizes.
- Now Brief cards: Generative, editable cards for health, weather, and video inside the daily summary.
- Warranty and Care: Warranty status, self-tests, repair estimates, and Samsung Care+ live in Settings.
- Now Nudge: Context tips in more places, including pulling a reservation or a shared pin out of a text thread.
- Privacy stack: Security Brief in Now Brief, on-device Privacy Alerts, and Scam Detection in listed countries.
Creative Studio can now suggest a generated image when a birthday or similar event is close. Interpreter adds a Thread View so a translated chat is easier to scroll back through, with faster talk mode and quicker playback on compatible Galaxy Buds. Document Scan handles curved book pages and folded corners with less manual cleanup. Voice Recorder lays summaries out with headings and tables.
Call Brief, which late S26 test builds picked up from the foldables, parks calendar items and mail on the in-call screen so you are not hunting while someone is talking. Quick panel layout is also more open than it was on One UI 8.5, which is the change most people will notice in the first ten minutes.
Scam Detection is the feature U.S. buyers should not assume they just received. Samsung’s own footnote names Japan, Canada, and India for that expansion. Privacy Alerts do list the Galaxy S26 and S26 Ultra among supported phones.
Samsung Scrubbed the September 28 Date
The U.S. package landed after Samsung had already moved the public calendar twice. The company still has not said what broke. The official One UI 9 rollout post on September 16 promised a gradual expansion after Korea. Other country pages then tried to put numbers on that promise, and those numbers did not hold.
THE ONE UI 9 CALENDAR THAT WOULD NOT SIT STILL
- May 12, 2026: Samsung opens the One UI 9 beta on the Galaxy S26 series.
- June 16, 2026: Pixel phones receive Android 17.
- July 22, 2026: Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 debut with stable One UI 9.
- August 7, 2026: Those foldables go on sale in 106 markets.
- September 15, 2026: Pixel phones receive Android 17 QPR1.
- September 16, 2026: Stable One UI 9 starts on the S26 series in South Korea.
- September 21, 2026: A listed non-Korea start date for the S26 series passes without a wide push.
- September 23, 2026: T-Mobile U.S. Galaxy S26 phones begin pulling the BZID package.
- September 24, 2026: A four-day Korean holiday period begins, through September 27.
Samsung Thailand first listed September 21 for the S26 series, then September 28, the same day already given to the Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. That revised day was then removed. The page now says only that the update comes within September. Canada had been pointed at September 21 as well. Firmware tracker Tarun Vats, who posted the T-Mobile Ultra build details as the U.S. wave began, wrote that Korea’s holiday stretch has him worried a wider country push may wait until September 27.
Korea received the One UI 9 Stable update on September 16, while T-Mobile US received it on September 23. We, as Beta and Global users, are still waiting.

People already on the Korean stable build describe a modest day-to-day change. That is a sour note against a slipped calendar. If the visual jump is small, a second week of “within September” language is mostly about which SIM and which CSC Samsung is willing to sign, not about a new phone on the table.
Unlocked Phones and the Other Carriers
Samsung has not posted a U.S. date for factory-unlocked Galaxy S26 models, or for AT&T and Verizon. Carrier notes from September 23 talked about AT&T following within a day or two. By the evening of September 24 that follow-up had not been confirmed, and Verizon was still quiet. Unlocked units were the last group in every U.S. recap that named a variant.
WHAT WE KNOW
- Live now: South Korea on all carriers since September 16, and T-Mobile U.S. S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra since September 23.
- Build on hand: The T-Mobile Ultra package is the BZID string above, with the September 5, 2026 patch.
- Manual path: Settings, then Software update, then Check for system update, on Wi-Fi, with the battery above half.
WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED
- AT&T and Verizon: No public package ID and no carrier post confirming One UI 9 on those S26 variants.
- U.S. unlocked: No XAA-style build reported as live, even for owners who paid full retail.
- Next countries: Thailand’s page now says only September, with no restored day after September 28 was cut.
If Settings reports that software is up to date, the phone is almost certainly on a CSC that Samsung has not signed yet. Refreshing the screen will not jump a Verizon unit onto T-Mobile’s blob. Sideloading a TMB package onto an unlocked or AT&T phone is how people brick the update channel, so the boring wait is still the safe one.
Check Settings Before You Burn Mobile Data
T-Mobile S26 owners do not have to sit on the notification. Open Settings, open Software update, and tap Check for system update. If the BZID package is offered, download it on Wi-Fi. A file this large will chew a mobile cap in one pass, and the install wants a stable radio more than it wants speed.
Keep the battery above 50 percent, or leave the phone on the charger. After the reboot, confirm the build ends in BZID and that the security patch date moved. Features that need a Samsung account, including My FanCam and Now Brief cards, will not fully light up until that login is present.
Beta testers already on a late One UI 9 test build should see a smaller hop to stable than someone jumping from One UI 8.5. If a beta unit says it is up to date and never offers stable, that phone may need the full signed firmware for its CSC rather than another incremental OTA.
Samsung still has not named the day unlocked Galaxy S26 phones, or AT&T and Verizon units, will see the same banner. Until that signature lands, the U.S. flagship’s Android 17 update remains a T-Mobile file, sitting one quarterly behind Pixel, while Korea’s offices are closed through September 27.
