Amazon Lounge Brands Sell the Spanx Look for $34
Amazon-native labels led by Anrabess sell $34 matching lounge sets against Spanx’s $246 AirEssentials look, and the trademark trail names who owns that aisle.
Nine Amazon matching sets priced from $25 to $50 landed in a September 25 shopping list, led by a $34 Anrabess half-zip that reviewers keep lining up against Spanx. Clara McMahon, a 28-year-old fashion writer who shops with her 66-year-old mother, framed the haul as a swap out of worn sweats. The names on those Amazon tags are doing more work than the celebrity comparisons stacked on top of them.
Spanx still sells the look as two pieces: a $128 half-zip and $118 pants, or $246 before any color goes on sale. The Amazon aisle sells the same formula as one bagged outfit, and the brand that keeps getting the Spanx comparison is not based in Atlanta.
A $34 Half-Zip Against a $246 Spanx Set
McMahon’s list opened with an Anrabess half-zip matching lounge set at $34, marked down from a $55 list price. The kit is a half-zip sweatshirt plus wide-leg pants in a stretch knit. Amazon reviewers have spent two years calling that combo a stand-in for Spanx AirEssentials, the travel set Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey have worn.
cute, comfy, and looks exactly like the Spanx set for a fraction of the price
Amazon five-star reviewer, Anrabess listing
That fraction is blunt once both tickets sit in the same sentence. $246 divided by $34 is about seven times. The gap is $212 if you pay Spanx list for the pair. Some AirEssentials wide-leg colors were marked down to $69 on final sale, which still leaves a $128 top sitting far above the Amazon bundle.
Anrabess lists the set in a 50 percent rayon, 45 percent polyester, and 5 percent elastane blend, machine washable, with the usual Amazon size run. One fall half-zip listing in the same brand family sat at 4.3 stars from 9,400 ratings, with Amazon’s bought-in-the-past-month badge over 900. Those figures move with the ASIN, but they are the volume the roundups are riding.
Fang Quansheng Registered Anrabess in 2017
Anrabess is not a house name invented last fall. Fang Quansheng, a China-based individual, first used ANRABESS on clothing in U.S. commerce on September 21, 2016, and holds the 2017 U.S. clothing trademark that followed. The word mark, serial 87300131, registered on August 29, 2017, as number 5275903, covering coats, dresses, pants, pullovers, sweaters, and related goods. The U.S. office accepted a Section 8 filing on July 28, 2023, so the registration is still live.
The 2017 file listed Fang at a Shenzhen address in Longgang District. A later mark, A ANRABESS, was filed on November 10, 2022, and registered on December 12, 2023, with an owner address in Yiwu. Same person, a second filing, a different Zhejiang city famous for small-goods export. Ten years after first use, the label is still the one shopping desks reach for when they need a Spanx lookalike with a Prime button.
THE ANRABESS PAPER TRAIL
- September 21, 2016: Fang Quansheng first uses ANRABESS on clothing in U.S. commerce.
- January 13, 2017: Files the word-mark application, serial 87300131.
- August 29, 2017: Registration 5275903 issues for Class 25 apparel.
- July 28, 2023: The U.S. office accepts the Section 8 maintenance filing.
- November 10, 2022: A second mark, A ANRABESS, is filed from a Yiwu address.
- December 12, 2023: That second mark registers as number 7242245.
The brand also sells through shopanrabess.com, so Amazon is the loud channel, not the only one. What Amazon supplies is the review pile and the “airport outfit” keyword string that magazines can lift without calling Shenzhen or Yiwu.
Amazon’s $25 to $50 Matching-Set Aisle
Anrabess is the lead item because it copies the famous silhouette. It is not alone. McMahon’s nine picks are a map of Amazon-native labels that live in the same search results: Caracilia, Wiholl, Suuksess, Lillusory, Egockal, Etcyy, Prettygarden, and Trendy Queen. Caracilia’s own storefront dates the line to 2016, the same year Anrabess first used its mark. The floor on the September 25 list is a Lillusory ribbed knit set priced at $25, sold as a set that can pass as pajamas.
THE NINE SETS IN THE SEPTEMBER 25 LIST
| Label | Price | Listed was | What the blurb sells |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anrabess | $34 | $55 | Half-zip Spanx lookalike |
| Caracilia | $43 | $60 | Turtleneck sweater set |
| Wiholl | $34 | – | “Ultimate airport outfit” |
| Suuksess | $50 | $120 | Oversized set, 58% off |
| Lillusory | $25 | – | V-neck ribbed knit, doubles as pajamas |
| Egockal | $45 | $55 | Short-sleeve seamed set |
| Etcyy | $45 | – | Everyday V-neck |
| Prettygarden | $40 | $54 | Knit cardigan set for layering |
| Trendy Queen | $33 | $53 | Mock-neck sweats |
The only 58 percent cut on that table is Suuksess, $50 from a $120 list. Other markdowns are milder: Anrabess 38 percent from $55, Trendy Queen 38 percent from $53, Caracilia 28 percent from $60. Amazon list prices on third-party fashion are often elastic, so the useful number is what the cart actually charges, which on this list never clears $50.
Oprah and Reese Wore the Template First
Spanx built the target these listings aim at. The AirEssentials Half Zip listed at $128 uses the company’s spacer fabric, which the product page calls light-as-air, cloud-soft, and smooth, with 4-way stretch. Sizes run XXS to 3X. The matching wide-leg pants listed at $118 add regular, petite, and tall inseams, which the Amazon bundles generally do not. On the live product pages, the top carried a 4.6 score from 4,471 reviews; the pants a 4.4 from 4,460.
Oprah put the half-zip and wide-leg pants on her 2023 Favorite Things list. Reese Witherspoon has worn the navy set. Spanx shoppers talk about the same use cases the Amazon copy now recites. Jill C., a verified buyer, wrote that she bought the half-zip and pants for an international flight and found them softer than her pajamas. Amanda R. said the fabric and shape were neat enough that she could wear the top to work.
The Amazon listings copy that brief almost line for line: oversized collar, half zip, wide leg, wrinkle talk, airport, errands, lounge. They do not copy the spacer fabric, the inseam split, or the $128 sticker. That is the trade.
Shoppers Who Own Both Call Them Close
The comparison is not only magazine language. Owners who already paid for AirEssentials keep posting that the Anrabess bag feels near enough to skip a second Spanx order. One reviewer who had just spent heavily on AirEssentials called the Amazon set an amazing dupe and ordered a second color. Another wrote that the Anrabess pants even win on pockets. A shopper who compared the two side by side called them identical at a fraction of the cost.
Quality is not a clean sweep. A writer who tried nine popular Amazon matching sets kept the Anrabess half-zip and sent a Wiholl mock-neck back after the beige arrived peach and the neck sat too tight. A separate try-on of a Wiholl set found the hand close to AirEssentials and warned the fabric might snag on a bag or bracelet. Spanx is not immune to that complaint. Shelia S., a verified AirEssentials pants buyer, wrote that the pants are soft and fit well, then added a snag warning of her own.
WHERE THE $34 SET LANDS
- The look: Half-zip, wide collar, and wide-leg pants, the AirEssentials outline at Amazon scale.
- The fabric: A rayon-poly-elastane knit, not Spanx spacer cloth, sold as buttery and washable.
- The fit notes: Loose on many Anrabess cuts; some shoppers size down. Petite and tall inseams are the Spanx extra.
- The snag risk: Flagged on at least one Wiholl try-on and on Spanx wide-leg pants, so it is a fabric class issue, not only a cheap-set issue.
Public posts about these ASINs on X are mostly affiliate drops repeating the same product titles. The argument that matters is in the review field, where people who own both keep saying the gap is the receipt.
Why Airports Keep Selling These Sets
Wiholl’s $34 set on McMahon’s list exists because one shopper called it the “absolute ultimate airport outfit” and “completely comfortable from check-in to touchdown.” That sentence is now a category. Anrabess titles name cruise, airplane, and travel. Trendy Queen titles name airport and athleisure. Lillusory has been sold as a 13-hour-flight outfit in older listings. The matching set is the product because it removes the second decision at 5 a.m.
McMahon wrote that a stylist once sold her on matching sets as a low-fuss formula for travel, errands, and the couch. Her mother, 66, wants the same practicality. That is the customer the Yiwu and Shenzhen storefronts are dressing: two generations sharing one uniform that used to be a $246 status knit and is now a $25-to-$50 Prime drop. Other shopping lists published around the same week started as low as $24, which is how crowded the aisle has become.
The celebrity names still do work. They tell a shopper the shape is allowed in public. The cart, though, goes to Anrabess, Wiholl, and Lillusory, labels most readers cannot spell on the first try and will not find on a mall directory.
Pockets, Inseams, and the Price Spanx Still Holds
Spanx has not cut the Half Zip to Amazon money. It still asks $128, still sells petite and tall pants, still leans on spacer fabric and a review base built over years of Favorite Things cycles. Some wide-leg colors at $69 show the company will clear stock. They do not show it will meet $34.
What the Amazon labels cannot put in the bag is that inseam system, that fabric patent-adjacent hand, and the certainty that a navy set seen on Reese is the same SKU in your order. What they can put in the bag is a complete outfit, often with pockets, often in more colors than Spanx is pushing that week, at $25 if you take the Lillusory knit or $34 if you want the half-zip that started this whole comparison.
Fang Quansheng’s mark has been in U.S. commerce for ten years. The September 25 list is one more week of other people’s photos moving his aisle. On Spanx.com the Half Zip is $128. On Amazon the Anrabess set reviewers keep comparing with it is $34.
