ASUS Ascent QN10 Still Reads Like a Developer Kit
ASUS is selling the Ascent QN10 Snapdragon X2 Elite mini PC from $1,349.99, while its own pitch still points at developers, AI Hub models, and edge boxes.
ASUS is selling the Ascent QN10, an 80 TOPS Snapdragon X2 Elite mini PC, from $1,349.99 at Best Buy. The Taipei announcement on September 17, 2026, calls it the first AI mini PC with 80 TOPS. The same release still aims the aluminum cube at creators, developers, and companies that want local AI at the edge.
That split is the launch. A Best Buy SKU makes the box look like a Mac mini rival. The software path, the model catalog, and the 32GB listing still look like a kit with a nicer shell.
ASUS Still Wrote This Box for Developers
ASUS’s press line does not open on home offices or living-room desks. It says the QN10 is built for creators, developers, and enterprises, and that the small chassis fits edge AI. The US product page adds a “Developer Ready” bullet and a third audience labeled AI developers, next to SOHO buyers and creators.
Designed for creators, developers, and enterprises, it empowers next-generation intelligent workflows in a compact yet powerful device, making it ideal for edge AI environments.
ASUS, Ascent QN10 press release, Taipei
ASUS North America posted the US arrival on September 17 and called the QN10 the world’s first 80 TOPS NPU agentic mini computer, with a link to the product page rather than a home-PC pitch.
It's finally here. 📦

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon account replied that 80 TOPS never looked so compact. Sascha Segan, who does PR for Qualcomm, had already handled a unit in June and wrote that the solid body and ports could fit in his home lab. Compact and lab-ready are the words that keep coming back. Living-room PC is not.
The 32GB listing on Amazon, SKU QN10-VQ0011HN, still titles the machine an AI Dev Kit. That is the quieter tell sitting next to the Best Buy consumer page.
80 TOPS in a 0.7-Liter Shell
The hardware is not a plastic prototype. ASUS puts the Snapdragon X2 Elite in a silver chassis that measures 130 x 130 x 40 mm and weighs 720 g. The company says the volume is under 0.7 liters and 86% smaller than a conventional 5-liter desktop. Cooling pulls air in on one side and splits heat from the processor and the SSD on the way out.
The shipping chip is the Snapdragon X2 Elite X2E-88-100, an 18-core third-generation Oryon part. Qualcomm lists a 4.7 GHz single-core and dual-core boost on this SKU, with an Adreno X2-90 GPU at up to 1.70 GHz. ASUS says that GPU is 2.3 times faster than the previous Adreno X1. The Hexagon NPU is rated at 80 TOPS.

The back adds a third USB4 port, two more USB 3.2 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, 2.5G LAN, and DC-in. That is seven USB ports in a cube that can sit under a monitor.
The US spec sheet lists Windows 11 Home Copilot+ PC and Windows 11 Pro Copilot+ PC. Memory is 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5x. Storage is a 512GB or 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 drive, and the product page says a second SSD is supported. Bluetooth on the shipping sheet is 6.0, a step up from the 5.4 figure on earlier preview tables.
The $1,349.99 Model Ships With 16GB
Best Buy has the 16GB memory and 512GB storage configuration at $1,349.99. ASUS’s US store lists the machine at $1,699, matching the 32GB and 512GB Amazon listing. Those are two different stacks, not a range for one SKU.
Apple’s M6 Mac mini starts at $899 with 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage, after an August 25, 2026 announcement, with sales set to begin on September 22. The Best Buy QN10 is $450.99 above that floor and still gives you 16GB of LPDDR5x. You pay more than the new Mac mini and you get the same memory class the old Arm kits used to ship at 32GB.
WHAT THE ARM MINI PCS HAVE COST
| Machine | Chip | Memory / storage | Launch price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows Dev Kit 2023 (2022) | Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 | 32GB / 512GB | $599 |
| Snapdragon Dev Kit for Windows (2024) | Snapdragon X Elite | 32GB / 512GB | $899 |
| ASUS Ascent QN10 (Best Buy) | Snapdragon X2 Elite | 16GB / 512GB | $1,349.99 |
| ASUS Ascent QN10 (ASUS store) | Snapdragon X2 Elite | 32GB / 512GB | $1,699 |
| Mac mini M6 | Apple M6 | 16GB / 256GB | $899 |
The cheap Windows mini PC market still lives well below this. Beelink-class boxes sell for a few hundred dollars with upgradable memory. The QN10 is priced with Apple’s small desktop and with thin Copilot+ laptops, not with the generic mini PC aisle. You are buying the NPU number, the Arm chip, and the aluminum case. You are not buying a bargain desktop.
Memory on this platform is LPDDR5x in 16GB or 32GB, which is a factory choice, not a SO-DIMM you swap later. If 16GB is tight for local models, the extra $349.01 to the 32GB store SKU is the upgrade path ASUS is actually offering.
An 18-Core Laptop Chip on the Desk
Qualcomm built the X2 Elite for laptops. The X2E-88-100 in this mini PC is the 18-core member of that family, not a desktop socket part. It carries 53 MB of cache and up to 152 GB/s of LPDDR5x bandwidth. The NPU is the same 80 TOPS Hexagon block Qualcomm put across most of the X2 Elite line.
That is why the box can idle with the fan at 0 RPM in ASUS’s own noise table and still feed Copilot+ features without a discrete GPU. It is also why the 180 W brick looks large next to the 720 g cube. The adapter is sized for a laptop-class SoC that can be pushed in a sealed 0.7-liter shell, not for a 5-liter tower.
ASUS’s SOHO copy calls the QN10 the fastest, most intelligent Copilot+ Windows PC in this size. That claim is about the NPU count among mini PCs, not about beating every Intel or AMD small box at x86 apps. Non-native software still depends on Windows on Arm translation. Native Arm builds and NPU-aware tools are the path this chip wants.
Arm Mini PCs Spent Four Years as Kits
Windows on Arm has had a small desktop before. It was sold to people writing code, not to people buying a PC at Best Buy.
THE ARM DESKTOPS BEFORE THE QN10
- October 24, 2022: Microsoft ships the Windows Dev Kit 2023, a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 box with 32GB of memory and 512GB of storage, at $599.
- May 21, 2024: Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon Dev Kit for Windows, a Snapdragon X Elite mini desktop with 32GB and 512GB, priced at $899 and due to ship on June 18, 2024.
- June 2026: ASUS shows the Ascent QN10 at Microsoft Build and Computex as the first Snapdragon X2 Elite mini PC, with AI Hub access described as a developer workflow.
- September 17, 2026: ASUS announces retail availability and puts a 16GB model on Best Buy at $1,349.99.
Microsoft now says the Windows Dev Kit 2023 is discontinued and points buyers to Copilot+ PCs. Qualcomm never put its own X2 Elite desktop on a consumer shelf. ASUS did, four years after the first $599 kit, and the 16GB retail SKU still has less memory than either developer box.
The case is nicer. The ports are denser. The NPU is faster. The merchandising is only half-converted. Amazon’s 32GB page still says AI Dev Kit because that is how this form factor has been sold since Project Volterra.
What Copilot+ Requires on a Mini PC
Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC class needs an NPU that can do more than 40 TOPS for Copilot+, plus 16GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. The QN10 clears that bar by a wide margin: 80 TOPS is double the NPU floor, and the small drive is 512GB. ASUS also loads Microsoft Pluton and fTPM 2.0 for the Copilot+ security stack.
The extra TOPS are meant for work that stays on the device. ASUS lists live translation, content generation, video cleanup, assistants, and workflow automation. The product page adds hybrid agent tools such as OpenClaw and Hermes Agent, which can take commands through apps like WhatsApp and LINE and then split jobs between a cloud model and the local NPU.
WHERE THE 80 TOPS ARE SUPPOSED TO GO
- Copilot+ floor: Microsoft asks for more than 40 TOPS, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD; the QN10 ships above all three.
- On-device jobs: ASUS names translation, generation, video enhancement, assistants, and automation as the local NPU workload.
- Model catalog: The press release says the box can reach the Qualcomm AI Hub for on-device models, with 175+ pre-optimized models plus Bring Your Own Model and Bring Your Own Data.
- Agent path: OpenClaw and Hermes Agent can mix cloud APIs with local inference, which is a builder setup even when the case looks like a home desktop.
AI Hub is a compile, profile, and deploy site. You pick a pre-tuned model or you bring your own, then you run it through Qualcomm’s runtime or ONNX. That is useful. It is also the same developer loop Qualcomm documented for Snapdragon X laptops. A Best Buy customer who wanted a quiet Windows box under a monitor is being handed a model zoo and a Workbench.
The QN10 is a real computer: 18 cores, four 4K displays, 2.5G Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and a fan that can stop at idle. It is also still the Arm mini PC that Microsoft and Qualcomm spent four years selling to people who port apps. ASUS changed the metal and the store shelf. It did not change who the software stack is written for.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Snapdragon Chip Is Inside the ASUS Ascent QN10?
The shipping unit uses the Snapdragon X2 Elite X2E-88-100, an 18-core chip with 53 MB of cache and up to 152 GB/s of LPDDR5x bandwidth. Qualcomm clocks the Adreno X2-90 on this SKU at up to 1.70 GHz. A few other X2 Elite parts list 85 TOPS; this one is the 80 TOPS bin.
Does the Ascent QN10 Qualify as a Copilot+ PC?
Yes. ASUS lists both Windows 11 Home Copilot+ PC and Windows 11 Pro Copilot+ PC. Microsoft’s published floor is an NPU above 40 TOPS, 16GB of memory, and a 256GB SSD, and the QN10 ships with 512GB as the small drive, so the storage floor is already doubled.
Can You Add a Second Drive to the Ascent QN10?
ASUS’s US product page says dual SSD is supported. The spec sheet lists included 512GB or 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 drives and support for 512GB to 1TB PCIe 4.0 x4 modules. The sheet does not list a user-swappable memory slot, so extra RAM means buying the 32GB configuration.
How Much Power and Noise Does ASUS Quote?
The spec sheet specifies a 180 W adapter at 20 V and 8 A. ASUS’s detailed sheet also listed a maximum noise of 53 dBA at full fan speed and 0 RPM at idle, and it said everyday OpenClaw use with a cloud model can run in 4GB of RAM if you keep the heavy jobs off the local NPU.
