Cumbernauld Media publishes news across ten desks. This page explains what that does and does not mean when you rely on it. We write it plainly, because the readers who most need it are the ones reading about a fare change, a recall, a drug trial or a company’s results minutes before making a decision, and they deserve to know how far they can lean on what they just read.

Business coverage is not financial advice

Our business desk reports on companies, markets, central banks, currencies, funds and the economy. It does not tell you what to buy, sell or hold. A story about a company’s results is not a recommendation about its shares. A story about a rate decision is not a forecast for your mortgage. A story about a token, a fund or a listing is not a statement that it is safe. Nothing on this site is financial, investment, tax or trading advice, and nothing on it creates any professional relationship between you and us. If money is at stake, consult someone licensed to advise you on your own circumstances.

Technology, auto and gaming coverage is not purchasing advice

Our technology, auto and gaming desks report on devices, vehicles, software, consoles and the companies behind them. Specifications, prices, availability and feature lists are reported as makers and retailers publish them, and they change between announcement and sale, between regions, and between the day we wrote the story and the day you read it. A story or a review describes what we were told or what we observed, not a guarantee that a product will suit you, work with what you own, or be sold at the price quoted. Check the seller’s current listing and the maker’s current documentation before you spend money.

Science and lifestyle coverage is not medical advice

Our science and lifestyle desks describe research, trends and the way people live. A story about a study is a description of what the study found in the population it studied, with the limits its authors stated. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan or a reason to start or stop any medication, diet or exercise. Nothing on this site replaces a clinician who has examined you, and nothing on it is legal, engineering, immigration, safety or security advice either.

Travel coverage is not a booking guarantee

Our travel desk reports on airlines, airports, hotels, destinations, visas and the rules that govern them. Fares, schedules, entry requirements and safety advisories change without notice and vary by nationality. A story is accurate as of the time it was published; before you book or travel, check the carrier, the venue and the relevant government’s official guidance for your own passport.

Sports coverage and betting

Our sports desk reports results, fixtures, injuries, transfers and governance. Nothing on it is a tip, a prediction or an encouragement to bet. Team news changes up to the moment a match begins, and we do not accept advertising that presents betting as a way to make money. If gambling is causing you harm, help is available in most countries through services your own government lists.

Accuracy and timeliness

We check our work before publication and correct it afterward, as the fact-checking and corrections policies describe. Even so, errors happen and facts change. A story carries the date and time it was published and, where it has been updated, the time of the update. Older stories are left in place as a record of what was known at the time; they are not rewritten to reflect later events unless a correction is required. Read the date before you rely on a story, especially on prices, results, schedules, legal status and the terms of a deal.

Claims, forecasts and official figures

When a company, a government, a club, a studio or a research group states a figure, a date, a target or a result, we report it as that organisation’s claim and we say so. Reporting a claim is not verifying it, and a claim we could not check is labelled as such. Forward-looking statements are made by people with an interest in how they land, and we treat them accordingly.

Opinion, analysis and quotation

Where we publish opinion, analysis or a review, it is labelled, and the views are those of the writer rather than necessarily of Cumbernauld Media. When we quote a person or an organisation, we are reporting that they said it, not endorsing it. Officials, executives, athletes, spokespeople and the people we interview are responsible for the accuracy of their own statements; we report them because they are newsworthy and we challenge them where we can.

Links, embeds and third-party content

Stories link to records, documents, official sites and other material so you can check us. We do not control those sites. Their content may change, disappear or be wrong, and their privacy practices are their own. Embedded content, such as a social media post that is itself the news, is shown as published by its author. Linking or embedding something means we are citing it, not recommending it.

Advertising

Advertisements on this site are labelled and are served through a third-party network. We do not publish sponsored posts, paid links or guest posts. We are not responsible for advertisers’ claims, products or services, and we are not a party to any purchase you make from them. The newsroom has no role in selecting advertising, and advertisers have no role in the newsroom.

Images

Photographs and graphics illustrate stories. Where an image is a file photo, a stock image, a manufacturer’s rendering, a screenshot or an illustration rather than a picture of the specific event described, the caption says so. We do not publish synthetic images of real events or real people presented as photographs.

Errors, and the limits of our promise

If you find an error, write to support@cumbernauld-media.com with CORRECTION in the subject line and the link. We will look at it the same day. Reporting an error does not create any obligation on our part beyond what the corrections policy describes, but it does get the error fixed, which is what both of us want.

The site and everything on it are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Cumbernauld Media is not liable for loss or damage, including trading, purchasing or travel losses, arising from reliance on anything published here.
