iQOO 16 Locks 8,400 mAh While 100W Charging Holds

Digital Chat Station now puts the iQOO 16 at 8,400 mAh, 100 mAh under an earlier leak, and still inside a September China launch. That is 1,400 mAh more than the iQOO 15, whose spec sheet still lists a 7,000 mAh typical pack and 100W charging.

The 100 mAh trim is leak noise. The product choice is a fatter cell with the same 100W brick, on a phone that also has to carry this year’s Extreme chip and cameras because iQOO is skipping an Ultra.

Digital Chat Station’s 8,400 mAh Confirmation

The Chinese tipster, posting as 数码闲聊站 on Weibo, wrote on 5 September 2026 that a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 flagship is confirmed at 8,400 mAh. Followers mapped that post to the iQOO 16, the vivo performance phone that has been leaking under model number V2606A.

Two days later the same account said the iQOO 16 is locked to launch inside September. The wording was blunt: full Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a Samsung 2K 165Hz M16 panel, the in-house Q4 gaming chip, a large-sensor camera set, and full-fat extras, without a Pro Max rename.

iQOO has not confirmed capacity, charging, or a date. China’s 3C filing for V2606A already lists a 100W adapter and N79 5G, which matches the wired figure in the leaks even if the pack size is still unofficial.

WHAT WE KNOW

Wireless speed is the hole. Some recaps copy the 15’s 40W figure onto the 16; Digital Chat Station has only said wireless charging is coming, not how fast.

The open items are the ones that decide whether 8,400 mAh feels like a slim flagship or a thicker gaming brick.

Why 8,400 mAh Still Beats Last Year’s Flagship

Start from the phone that actually exists. iQOO’s global spec sheet for the 15 lists a 7,000 mAh typical pack and 100W charging, on the same 6.85-inch class of 2K panel the 16 is supposed to keep. The 16’s leaked cell is 1,400 mAh larger, a 20% jump if both typical ratings are honest.

That leap is the number that survives the rumor trim. 8,500 mAh to 8,400 mAh is 100 mAh, about one percent. 7,000 mAh to 8,400 mAh is the year-on-year change buyers will feel if the software does not waste it.

FLAGSHIP PACKS AND BRICKS

Against phones you can buy this month, 8,400 mAh would sit 1,100 mAh above the OnePlus 15 and 900 mAh above the Find X9 Pro. It would also sit 1,000 mAh above the iQOO 15 Ultra, which matters because Digital Chat Station said iQOO is skipping an Ultra for this cycle, citing memory prices and a line that does not ship every year.

Capacity is not runtime. One published PCMark run on the iQOO 15 lasted 13.1 hours, behind the OnePlus 15’s 17.1 hours on a 7,300 mAh cell. The 16 still has to prove the extra 1,400 mAh is not eaten by a 165Hz 2K panel and a 5.01 GHz sample chip.

100W Charging Stays Frozen on a Larger Pack

iQOO already slowed the brick once. The 15 dropped to 100W from 120W on the prior flagship, and the 16 leaks keep that 100W cap. China’s 3C listing for V2606A is the hard document behind the rumor: a 100W adapter, not a new peak.

Hold wattage still and grow the cell by 20%, and a full charge takes longer unless the curve, cell count, or silicon mix changes in iQOO’s favor. The 15 has been timed at about 45 minutes from 20% to full on 100W in one lab run. Nobody has published a 16 curve, so that 45-minute mark is a floor for patience, not a prediction.

Wireless is the quieter freeze. iQOO’s own product page for the 15 advertises a 40W wireless charging rating on a silicon anode pack, plus bypass charging so games do not cook the cell while it sits on a cable. Recaps of the 16 often paste that 40W figure across. Digital Chat Station has not restated the pad wattage, and 3C does not settle it.

The 15’s published pack is a fourth-generation silicon anode design with a second-generation semi-solid mix, rated for use from -20C to 40C. That chemistry is why 7,000 mAh fit an 8.17 mm Legend body at 220 g. 8,400 mAh in the same 6.85-inch outline only works if the next cell is denser still, or if the 16 is allowed to grow. iQOO has not said which.

9,000 mAh Was Already in Cheaper Prototypes

The flagship is not even the biggest pack in iQOO’s own leak stream. In mid-July, Digital Chat Station described three engineering phones at once: the 2nm Snapdragon flagship at 8,500 mAh, a 3nm model at 9,000 mAh, and another 3nm model with a single-cell 10,000 mAh pack. The read across the rumor mill was iQOO 16, Neo 12, and a Z12 series phone.

THREE IQOO PACKS IN THE JULY LEAK

• iQOO 16: Then 8,500 mAh with 100W wired and wireless, now trimmed to 8,400 mAh on the Extreme chip.
• Neo 12 (believed): A 3nm prototype testing 9,000 mAh, above the vanilla flagship.
• Z12 series (believed): A 3nm prototype testing a single-cell 10,000 mAh pack.

Those 9,000 mAh and 10,000 mAh figures are prototype talk, not launch specs, and they can shrink the way the 16 just did. They still show the direction: iQOO is stuffing the largest cells into cheaper performance phones that do not also have to hold a 2nm Extreme chip, a 165Hz 2K panel, and a 1/1.3-inch main camera.

The 16’s job is different. It has to look like a flagship in the hand, not a power bank. Mid-range bodies have fewer cameras and slower silicon, so they can take the cartoon capacities. If the Z12 really ships a 10,000 mAh cell, the “huge” 8,400 mAh on the 16 will look like the constrained number, which is the joke inside this leak.

Geekbench’s V2606A Run Could Not Hold 5.01 GHz

The battery leak sits on top of a chip that is not finished. On 25 August 2026, Geekbench 6.7.1 stored a vivo V2606A Geekbench listing running Android 17. The CPU name is QTI SM8975. The clusters are three cores at 3.74 GHz, three at 4.03 GHz, and two at 5.01 GHz. Memory is 14.87 GB, which iQOO will sell as 16 GB if it ships that SKU.

Scores were 3,434 single-core and 9,334 multi-core. A published average for last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is 3,631 and 10,940. The sample is slower on paper, which is what you expect from pre-production firmware, not a reason to call the chip dead.

THE AUGUST 25 SAMPLE

• Single-core: 3,434 points in Geekbench 6.7.1.
• Multi-core: 9,334 points on the same run.
• Peak clocks: Two prime cores listed at 5.01 GHz.
• Held clocks: Frequency telemetry sat near 4.59 to 4.60 GHz through the test.

That 5.01 GHz peak is the headline Qualcomm wants at Snapdragon Summit. The 4.59 GHz hold is the thermal story iQOO has to solve without last year’s Ultra fan, if Digital Chat Station’s May note on a fanless prototype still stands. The same listing reports an Adreno 850. Naming has moved too: SM8975 was widely called Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, then Extreme Gen 6, with SM8950 as the plain Elite Gen 6.

Qualcomm has booked Summit for 22 to 24 September 2026 in Maui, where it is expected to show both 2nm parts. A China phone launch inside September, if Digital Chat Station is right, has to land in the days after that stage, not before the chip has a public name.

Samsung’s M16 Screen and the New Square Camera Deck

The panel is the other power draw sitting on that 8,400 mAh cell. Digital Chat Station has described a 6.85-inch flat Samsung 2K display at 165Hz using M16 emissive material and a new LEAD stack, with the 16 billed as an early Android phone on that recipe. The 15 uses a 6.85-inch 3168 x 1440 AMOLED at 144Hz with M14 material and 6,000 nits local peak on iQOO’s spec sheet.

Twenty-one extra hertz and a new stack do not automatically drain the extra 1,400 mAh, but they are not free either. The 16 is also said to keep a 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, IP68 and IP69, USB 3.2, 1115-series symmetrical dual speakers, and an 0916-series X-axis motor. Those are the “full extras” in the 7 September post, not a stripped gaming slab.

Cameras moved from a megapixel fight to a sensor-size fight. Engineering talk that once floated a 200MP main camera has settled, in later Digital Chat Station notes, on a 50MP OmniVision OV50Q at 1/1.3 inch and f/1.68, plus a 50MP ultrawide at f/2.0 and a 50MP periscope at 1/1.95 inch and f/2.65. A 32MP front camera is in the same recaps. A recent Weibo image pointed to a small square camera island in the upper left, a break from the 15’s squiricle deck.

The Q4 chip is iQOO’s next in-house gaming part after the 15’s Q3. Leaks credit it with virtual point lights, HDR mixing, and game stills up to 8K. That is software and silicon that will pull on the battery during long sessions, which is exactly when an 8,400 mAh cell is supposed to earn its keep, and when 100W bypass charging on a cable would matter if iQOO carries it over.

When Does the iQOO 16 Launch in China?

Digital Chat Station said on 7 September 2026 that the iQOO 16 launches inside September. That is the working date. Earlier recaps had left room for early October, and the 15 itself came on 20 October 2025 in China, so the new window is about a month earlier if it holds.

The calendar only works if Qualcomm’s 22 to 24 September Summit comes first. iQOO can pre-brief a phone; it cannot ship a named Extreme chip before Qualcomm puts that name on a slide. The compact iQOO Pad Ultra, an 8.8-inch OLED slate the same tipster said would use the same 2nm part, a fan, and a roughly 9,000 mAh cell, is also aimed at this month.

THE LEAK CALENDAR

1. 25 May 2026: Digital Chat Station describes an SM8975 engineering phone at about 8,500 mAh with no built-in fan.
2. 13 to 14 July 2026: The same account repeats 8,500 mAh and 100W for the flagship, and floats 9,000 mAh and 10,000 mAh on two 3nm iQOO prototypes.
3. 12 August 2026: V2606A clears 3C with a 100W adapter and N79.
4. 25 August 2026: Geekbench stores the V2606A SM8975 run at 3,434 and 9,334 points.
5. 5 September 2026: The pack is restated as 8,400 mAh confirmed.
6. 7 September 2026: The China launch is locked inside September, still without an Ultra model.

A China date is not an India date. The 15 did go on sale in India after the China debut, and some rumor notes still treat the 16 as the one iQOO flagship that might travel. That is hope, not a filing. Until iQOO puts 8,400 mAh on a slide, the figure is a tipster’s confirmation, not a box spec, and 100W is the only charging number with a certificate behind it.

If September holds, the first 2nm iQOO flagship will walk on stage with a cell 1,400 mAh larger than last year’s and a brick that did not grow at all. That is the trade the leak actually describes, and it is the one rivals with 7,300 mAh and 7,500 mAh packs now have to answer.
