Vivo Puts Flagships First on the OriginOS 7 India List

OriginOS 7 starts on vivo X phones in late October 2026, while T and Y series models that still drive India volume wait until February 2027.

Vivo will start sending OriginOS 7 to Indian phones at the end of October 2026, beginning with the X Fold 5 and the X300 series. The Android 17-based software then moves through 40 phones in six waves, and the last T and Y models are not due until the end of February 2027.

The calendar was named on 6 October 2026 at vivo NEXT 2026 in India, the same event that launched the X Fold 6, the V80 and the S2 FE. Only two of those new phones leave the shop on OriginOS 7.

Same Event, Two Operating Systems

The X Fold 6 is priced at Rs 2,19,999 for the 12 GB and 512 GB model and goes on sale on 13 October 2026 with OriginOS 7 already installed. The V80, which takes its 7,200mAh battery bet to India from Rs 62,999, is the first V-series phone to ship the new skin from the box. It also goes on sale on 13 October 2026, and vivo promises six years of security updates on that model.

The S2 FE does not get the same treatment. It launches on OriginOS 6, built on Android 16, at Rs 38,999 for 6 GB and 128 GB and Rs 42,999 for 8 GB and 128 GB, and it goes on sale on 20 October 2026. Its own update window is the end of January 2027, so a phone unveiled beside OriginOS 7 waits more than three months to catch up.

Every V80 variant uses 8 GB of RAM. The S2 FE tops out at 8 GB too. That matters once the new software’s headline multitasking tool comes into view.

When OriginOS 7 Reaches Each Vivo Phone

vivo India introduced OriginOS 7 as a stable update for selected phones, with the first over-the-air copies due at the end of October 2026. The named list covers the X, V, S, T and Y lines. Phones inside each window can still get the file on different days, and carrier-exclusive units sit outside this plan.

THE SIX ORIGINOS 7 WINDOWS IN INDIA

Mid-December 2026 X Fold 3 Pro, X100 Pro, X100, V70 Elite, V70, V70 FE, V60, V60e 8

Total All six waves 40

The first two windows are X-series only. Mid-December 2026 is the first time a V-series phone appears, and it is the V70 and V60 group, not the older V30 and V40 phones that still sit in many shops. No T or Y model is dated before 2027.

The T and Y Series Wait Until 2027

That order would be ordinary if vivo’s India business ran on foldables. It does not. Counterpoint Research said vivo led India’s smartphone market in the April-June 2026 quarter, with the volume-driven Y and T series still doing a large share of the shipping.

Nine T phones are on the list. Eight of them, from the T5 Pro 5G down to the T3 Ultra, are dated for the end of January 2027. The T4x 5G slips to the end of February 2027 with the oldest V30 models. Four Y phones make the cut: the Y51 Pro 5G in January 2027, then the Y400 Pro 5G, Y400 5G and Y31 Pro 5G in February 2027.

Those are the lines that fill vivo’s offline counters. They are also the lines that receive OriginOS 7 after Republic Day, and in some cases after the financial-year close. Owners of an X300 FE, by contrast, are in the first wave at the end of October 2026.

Origin Workbench Stops Below 12 GB

OriginOS 7 is the second yearly jump since vivo folded its China skin and its old global skin into one product. Colling Cheung, OriginOS Global Product Planning Director, framed the new build as a follow-on to that merge.

Last year, vivo OriginOS 6 set a new standard for smoothness, design, and AI. With OriginOS 7, we’re taking that standard even further to deliver mastery of smoothness, smartly redefined.

The tool that actually changes how a phone is used is Origin Workbench, a workspace that can hold up to five active applications and move text or images between them. vivo’s India software page says Origin Workbench on models with 12 GB of RAM or more, and that cross-app drag depends on the app and the region. The X Fold 6 qualifies on RAM. The V80 and the S2 FE, as sold in India, do not.

WHAT VIVO SAYS THE ENGINE CHANGES

  • Cold start: App launch time is up to 10% shorter in vivo lab tests.
  • Page switching: Moving between app pages is up to 11% faster.
  • Memory Fusion: Memory reclaim is up to 60% faster, with up to 25 GB extra storage freed on a 256 GB phone.
  • Dual Rendering: A new render path lifts efficiency by 14.4%.

Those figures come from vivo’s own tests, and the company also cites a 72-month anti-aging run in its labs. Fluid Motion, the springy animation layer, is listed as available on select models. Feature splits of that kind usually hit harder on the later waves, where RAM and chipsets are leaner.

This Is Vivo’s Second Year on One Global Skin

Until 2025, China ran OriginOS and the rest of the world, including India, ran Funtouch OS. vivo closed that split when OriginOS 6 went global, and it stopped making new Funtouch OS versions. OriginOS 7, shown in Shanghai on 21 September 2026, is the first full Android 17 skin on that combined tree.

HOW ORIGINOS BECAME THE GLOBAL SKIN

  1. October 15, 2025: vivo puts OriginOS 6 on new phones outside China and ends new Funtouch OS versions.
  2. September 21, 2026: vivo introduces OriginOS 7 in Shanghai, built on Android 17.
  3. October 6, 2026: vivo India names OriginOS 7 at NEXT 2026 and publishes the six update windows.
  4. End of October 2026: First stable over-the-air copies are due on the X Fold 5 and the X300 series.

The new build is not only motion. Jovi can search files, read several documents, and send a task to a linked PC. Snap Note turns a photo of a whiteboard or a slide into an editable note. AI Recorder splits speakers and writes summaries using speech tools vivo says it shares with Microsoft Teams cloud services, plus Google Gemini for cleanup. Smart Call Assistant can pick up a call and drop an overview into the log. Office Kit can hand a task to a Mac, iPad or Windows PC, show AirPods status on Origin Island, and open selected iCloud files inside vivo’s file manager.

Lock-screen toys ride along too: Wiggle Theme, Glint Theme, StickIt collages, and Pet Pals that react to charging, music and the time of day. Those are the parts a flagship owner will see in weeks. A Y400 5G owner is dated for the end of February 2027, and vivo still warns that features vary by model, software version, country and language.

No iQOO Models Appear on This List

The published India calendar is a vivo-brand list. iQOO, vivo’s performance sub-brand, is not on it. That is a missing schedule, not a confirmed skip, and a separate iQOO window has not been posted with this one.

WHO IS OUTSIDE THIS CALENDAR

  • iQOO phones: No iQOO model is named in the six vivo windows.
  • Carrier units: Operator-exclusive variants follow the carrier’s own timing.
  • Older Y phones: Only four Y models are listed, so many entry phones from earlier years are simply not on this update.
  • Low-RAM Workbench: Phones sold with 8 GB or 6 GB can still get OriginOS 7 and still miss the five-app workspace as vivo currently describes it.

The first over-the-air copies should reach X Fold 5 and X300 owners before October 2026 is over. The V80 and X Fold 6 skip the wait because they ship the software on 13 October 2026. The S2 FE, the T series and the Y series that still carry vivo’s India volume have dates in 2027, and iQOO owners still do not have one.

That approach shapes coverage across news, business and technology as much as science, sports and entertainment, and it carries into the lifestyle, travel, auto and gaming pages, where product specifications are checked against the manufacturer's sheet and, where possible, against Harry's own testing.
