A new charity shop has officially opened its doors on Peebles High Street, bringing Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) back to the town after a decade. The organization, which provides critical support for people living with chest, heart, and stroke conditions, as well as Long Covid, is also calling for volunteers to help run the new store.
Charity Returns to Peebles with Fresh Storefront
After months of preparation, CHSS welcomed customers into its brand-new Peebles location on Thursday, March 13. The shop is expected to play a crucial role in funding services that assist people affected by serious health conditions across Scotland.
Diane Mckervail, retail regional manager at CHSS, expressed her excitement about re-establishing a presence in the area.
“We’re delighted to finally get to meet the community of Peebles after lots of hard work to get the shop up and running over the last few months,” she said.
CHSS already operates successful charity shops in Melrose, Kelso, Hawick, and Galashiels. Now, Peebles joins the list, strengthening the charity’s connection with the Scottish Borders.
Volunteers Needed to Keep the Store Thriving
Running a successful charity shop depends heavily on community support, and CHSS is actively seeking volunteers to help manage the Peebles location.
Mckervail emphasized the significance of volunteers in keeping CHSS stores running efficiently.
“Volunteers are key to everything that we do as a charity. We’d love to hear from anyone in the local area who would like to join our busy retail team to make sure our newest store is a success,” she said.
Those interested in lending a hand can find more details on the CHSS volunteering webpage.
What Shoppers Can Expect
The Peebles store follows the ‘signature style’ of CHSS outlets across Scotland. Shoppers will find:
- Upcycled furniture pieces
- A variety of men’s and women’s clothing
- Bric-a-brac and homeware selections
Donations of pre-loved items are welcomed during opening hours, which run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Supporting Thousands Across Scotland
CHSS aims to reach 150,000 people by 2028 through its Community Healthcare Support Services. Every penny raised at the Peebles store will stay in Scotland, ensuring local residents receive the help they need.
