Distillery Workers Vote for Strike Over Pay Dispute

Distillery workers across the north and northeast of Scotland, along with warehouse staff in Lanarkshire, have voted in favor of strike action after rejecting a proposed 3% pay increase. The dispute, involving employees at Inver House Distillers, signals potential disruption in Scotland’s whisky industry if negotiations fail to progress.

Sites Impacted by Potential Strike

The ballot covered multiple key sites, including:

  • Warehouse staff in Airdrie
  • Distillery workers at Balblair, Balmenach, and Old Pulteney in the Highlands
  • Knockdhu distillery in Aberdeenshire
  • Speyburn distillery in Moray

Union Demands a Higher Pay Increase

GMB Scotland has been pressing for a 4% wage rise, arguing that the company’s offer does not adequately reflect rising living costs.

David Hume, representing the union, has called on Inver House Distillers to return to the negotiation table. He stated, “They must re-engage with negotiations, return to the table, and find a fair resolution. If they do not, industrial action is now inevitable.”

No Response from Inver House Distillers Yet

Inver House Distillers has been approached for comment, but as of now, no public response has been issued.

A short paragraph to keep engagement high.

Industry Concerns Over Disruption

A potential strike could disrupt production and supply chains, impacting whisky distribution from some of Scotland’s well-known distilleries. The sector, which contributes significantly to the economy, may face delays if industrial action moves forward.

With no agreement in sight, all eyes are now on whether talks will resume before workers walk out.
