Apple Design Awards 2026 winners include Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Blue Prince and 10 more apps and games, Apple said Tuesday, June 2. The 12 winners came from 36 finalists across six categories and will be recognized during Apple’s WWDC26 conference week, which opens June 8.
The two game choices put a heavy Mac port and an indie puzzle success in the same pre-conference spotlight, giving developers a convenient reading of the software Apple wants around its hardware before the keynote.
Apple Rewards a Mac Gaming Pair Before WWDC
Apple’s announcement, posted six days before the keynote, puts 12 names across the table: one app and one game for Delight and Fun, Inclusivity, Innovation, Interaction, Social Impact, and Visuals and Graphics. The company said the finalists came from around the world and that winners will be honored during the developer conference.
This year’s Apple Design Award winners are a remarkable reflection of how developers are creating exceptional experiences.
Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said the line in the announcement. The shorter version for game studios is visible in the picks. 12 winners from 36 finalists gives the company a curated set of examples before it talks about tools, graphics and app distribution on stage.
The Six Category Map
The category split keeps the awards away from a pure popularity contest. A best-selling role-playing game and a tiny daily wisdom app sit in adjacent rows, each judged against the job its category sets.
| Category | App Winner | Game Winner | Apple’s Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delight and Fun | grug | Is This Seat Taken? | Playful daily interaction and puzzle feedback |
| Inclusivity | Guitar Wiz | Pine Hearts | Access choices and readable play |
| Innovation | NBA: Live Games & Scores | Blue Prince | Vision Pro live sports and a mansion built room by room |
| Interaction | Moonlitt: Moon Phase Tracker | Sago Mini Jinja’s Garden | Clear controls across devices and child-friendly touch play |
| Social Impact | Primary: News in Depth | Consume Me | Spatial news presentation and autobiographical game design |
| Visuals and Graphics | Tide Guide: Charts & Tables | Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition | Weather data craft and high-end Mac rendering |
The game side is broad. Poti Poti Studio’s Is This Seat Taken? is a gentle logic puzzle about placing passengers. Hyper Luminal Games’ Pine Hearts leans on accessible controls and legibility. Jenny Jiao Hsia and AP Thomson’s Consume Me, a personal game about body image and self-worth, sits beside Sago Mini’s garden game for young children. The list runs from family play to a mature autobiographical Mac game.
CD Projekt Sets the Hardware Bar
CD Projekt’s winning entry arrived on Mac on July 17, 2025, through the Mac App Store, GOG.com, Steam and Epic Games Store. The Cyberpunk 2077 Mac launch note said the Ultimate Edition brought the base game and Phantom Liberty expansion to Apple silicon machines with 16 GB or more of unified memory for the first time.
The Mac version is useful for Apple because it is expensive to run. CD Projekt lists ray tracing, frame generation and built-in Spatial Audio with head tracking for AirPods in its release material. The Mac App Store requirements page adds the consumer-facing floor.
- 16 GB unified memory minimum – The game requires an Apple silicon Mac with that memory floor.
- macOS 15.5 or later – The listing sets that software baseline for buyers.
- 159 GB listed download size – The requirements table warns users about the full voiceover download.
CD Projekt’s wider release calendar has been moving too; CN Media recently covered CD Projekt’s Witcher 3 expansion plans, a separate branch of the Warsaw publisher’s work outside Mac ports.
Blue Prince Gives Apple a Different Kind of Win
Dogubomb’s game works at the other end of the catalog. Its Mac App Store listing for Dogubomb’s game shows the lighter Mac footprint: macOS 11.0 or later, 8.6 GB size, a 13+ rating and Game Center support. Apple, in its awards copy, singled out environmental storytelling in notes, pictures and secrets, then said a completed run reveals an entire second game’s worth of story.
The pairing stretches across the store. High-end spectacle sits beside a quiet mansion game whose rooms reset each day, and both carry the Mac label on Apple’s winner list. For a platform that still needs more native games, that shared label is doing a lot of work this week.
Where the App Winners Fit
The app winners are smaller names than the games, which gives Apple a broader set of examples. Grug by Ocho won Delight and Fun with a tiny daily affirmation idea; Guitar Wiz by Bijoy Thangaraj won Inclusivity by pairing guitar instruction with accessibility features such as Dynamic Type, Increased Contrast and Differentiate Without Color.
NBA: Live Games & Scores, from NBA Media Ventures, won Innovation for Apple Vision Pro. Apple’s announcement says the app lets users watch up to five live games at once, follow floating stats and see player movement on a tabletop 3D court. Moonlitt, Tide Guide and Primary fill out the utility side, from lunar planning to tide data to spatial news.
Apple also put Consume Me in Social Impact. That selection gives a Mac game about mental health, body image and self-worth the same category weight as Primary, a news app for Vision Pro. The spread is large enough that a developer can find a nearby example without copying a genre.
WWDC Gives the Awards a Second Audience
The awards land six days before the keynote. Apple’s WWDC page lists the Keynote, the Platforms State of the Union, more than 100 new videos and group labs with engineers and designers during the week. Games already have their own lane in the developer materials.
The Game Porting Toolkit 3 developer page tells studios to evaluate Windows binaries on Apple silicon, convert DirectX Intermediate Language (DXIL, a shader format used by Direct3D pipelines) into Metal libraries and use Windows-side Metal developer tools. The target reader is a porting team.
That page connects the trophy list to the work. It tells studios to test, profile, convert shaders and rebuild for Apple devices. A Design Award gives Apple a finished example to point at when those sessions start. The Keynote streams Monday, June 8, at 10 a.m. Pacific time.
