Scotland’s newest independent whisky bottler, Saltire Rare Malt Whisky, has made a remarkable debut with its initial six releases of premium single malt whiskies, selling out completely as it enters the global market. Based in Falkland, Fife, the company has already established a presence in the UK, Japan, Latin America, and The Netherlands. Co-founders Keith Rennie and Nigel Heywood, longtime friends and experienced entrepreneurs, are now setting their sights on further international expansion.
A Triumphant Debut
Saltire Rare Malt Whisky’s debut has been nothing short of spectacular. The company’s first six releases, which include a 14-year-old Aultmore, 15-year-old Tamnavulin, and 17-year-old Glen Moray, have all sold out. This success is a testament to the quality and uniqueness of their offerings. Each cask yields up to 350 bottles, with retail prices ranging from £79 to £105, ensuring that each release is both exclusive and highly sought after.
The company’s commitment to quality is evident in their strict adherence to a minimum ABV of 48.8% and a minimum age of 14 years for all their bottlings. This dedication to excellence has resonated with whisky enthusiasts worldwide, leading to a swift sell-out of their initial offerings. The next trio of whiskies, including a 17-year-old Caol Ila and two Speyside bottlings, is already generating significant anticipation.
Expanding Horizons
With their initial success, Saltire Rare Malt Whisky is now looking to expand its reach even further. The company has already established a presence in several key markets, including the UK, Japan, Latin America, and The Netherlands. Their next target markets include Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the United States, and North Asian countries. This ambitious expansion plan is a clear indication of the company’s confidence in its products and its commitment to bringing high-quality Scottish whisky to a global audience.
Co-founders Keith Rennie and Nigel Heywood have been quietly purchasing and maturing casks of whisky over the past decade, amassing an impressive collection of over 250 casks. This extensive stockpile has allowed them to carefully select and release only the finest whiskies, ensuring that each bottle meets their exacting standards. The company’s success is a testament to their vision and dedication to the craft of whisky making.
Honoring Tradition
Saltire Rare Malt Whisky is deeply rooted in Scottish tradition. The company is based in Falkland, Fife, home to the historic Falkland Palace where Scottish kings once lived and first recognized aqua vitae – the water of life. This connection to Scotland’s rich whisky heritage is a source of pride for the company and is reflected in their commitment to producing exceptional whiskies.
Respected whisky experts Hans and Becky Offringa, known internationally as The Whisky Couple, have been appointed as curators of Saltire Rare Malt Whisky’s stock. With over 50 years of experience between them, the Offringas bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the company. Their involvement ensures that each release is of the highest quality and that the company’s reputation for excellence is maintained.
