England delivered a clinical performance to beat Scotland 2-0 in the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers semi-final on Friday night in Hyderabad, booking their place in the final and keeping their dream of automatic World Cup 2026 qualification alive.
Two first-half goals in four electric minutes from Lottie Bingham and Darcy Bourne sealed the win in front of a lively crowd at the GMC Balayogi Hockey Ground.
First-Half Blitz Stuns Scotland
The match barely reached the 25th minute when England struck.
Lottie Bingham, playing with the confidence of someone who grew up scoring derby goals, latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Tess Howard and fired past Amy Costello in the Scotland goal. Four minutes later, Darcy Bourne made it 2-0 with a fierce reverse-stick finish after a swift counter-attack.
Scotland, who had matched India blow-for-blow in the pool stage, simply had no answer to England’s intensity. The second half turned into a masterclass in game management as England shut down every Scottish circle entry.
Bingham Sisters Shine on the Big Stage
Friday belonged to the Bingham family.
While Lottie was breaking Scottish hearts in the semi-final, her sister Elizabeth Bingham scored both goals as Wales beat Korea 2-1 earlier in the day to finish fifth. The sisters, born in the same small Berkshire village, are now the talk of British hockey.
Lottie told reporters after the match: “We always said one day we’d both score on the same night for our countries. Tonight it actually happened. I’m so proud of Liz, and this one’s for her.”
What the Win Means for England
Victory guarantees England at least a silver medal and a huge chance to seal direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup in Belgium and Netherlands.
Only the top three teams from this qualifier earn automatic spots. With India strong favorites in the other semi-final against Italy, tomorrow’s final is now a straight shoot-out between the hosts and England for the golden ticket.
England captain Hollie Pearne-Webb said: “We know what’s at stake. We’ve been building for this moment since Tokyo. Tomorrow we play for everything.”
Friday’s Other Results at Hyderabad

The tournament has been a celebration of women’s hockey in India, with packed stands and electric atmosphere every single night. Young girls wearing India jerseys have been chanting for both the hosts and the visiting teams, proving once again why this country breathes hockey.
Tomorrow, either India or Italy will face England in the final. Whatever happens, British hockey is guaranteed at least one team in the World Cup showpiece next year, and the Bingham sisters have made sure the story will be told for years to come.
What a night for the red, white, and blue. What a night for family. What a night for hockey.
Tell us in the comments: Can England go all the way and beat India in the final tomorrow?
