Vestas Secures 1.1 GW Order for Inch Cape Offshore Wind Project in Scotland

Vestas has landed a major contract to supply turbines for the 1.1 gigawatt (GW) Inch Cape Offshore Wind project off the coast of Scotland. The order, from Inch Cape Offshore Limited—an equal joint venture between ESB and Red Rock Renewables—marks a significant milestone for the global renewable energy landscape.

A Major Step in the UK’s Renewable Energy Plans

This new order comes as part of Vestas’ continued commitment to supporting the UK’s transition to renewable energy. The agreement includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of 72 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines. These turbines will be deployed at the Inch Cape offshore site, located 15 kilometers off the Angus coast in the Scottish North Sea. The project is a key part of the UK’s ambitious plans to ramp up offshore wind capacity and decarbonize the electricity grid by 2030.

Together with our partners, we are making significant strides towards the UK government’s goal to quadruple offshore wind by 2030, as a cornerstone of its commitment to decarbonizing electricity by 2030.”

Project Milestones and Impact

The turbines to be used in this project, Vestas’ latest V236-15.0 MW model, represent the forefront of wind turbine technology. Once completed, the Inch Cape offshore wind farm will generate more than 5 terawatt hours (TWh) of renewable electricity each year, significantly contributing to the UK’s energy security and its goals of reducing carbon emissions.

John Hill, the Inch Cape Project Director, highlighted the significance of securing the full notice to proceed: “The 72 V236-15.0 MW turbines are the latest state-of-the-art turbines from Vestas and will make an important contribution to the UK’s energy security and carbon reduction.”

The turbines will be installed at the Port of Dundee, with installation scheduled to begin in 2026 and the full operation expected by 2027. The project will be a major step forward in the UK’s renewable energy efforts and is part of a broader push to enhance offshore wind energy production in the region.
