Scotland has welcomed its first babies of 2025 in maternity units across the country, as families rang in the New Year with joy and new beginnings.
Archie McGibbon – Glasgow’s First Baby
At the stroke of midnight, Archie McGibbon made his debut at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow, arriving just three minutes past the New Year. Weighing 4.14 kg (9 lbs 2 oz), Archie is the first baby born in Scotland to ring in 2025.
Parents Amy McGibbon and Nathan Perry couldn’t be happier. “We’re over the moon,” they said, excited to begin this new chapter with their baby boy.
Alexander Glover – A Little Early in Edinburgh
In Edinburgh, Alexander Glover made his early arrival at 00:41 at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Weighing in at 2.35 kg (5 lbs 3 oz), Alexander was born a bit ahead of schedule, much to the delight of his mother, Katia. Although his father Jonny is working abroad, Katia expressed her excitement to soon introduce him to his son.
“He came a little early, which was a lovely surprise,” Katia shared. “We can’t wait for Jonny to meet him.”
Gabriel Anthony – A Long-Awaited New Year’s Baby
Meanwhile, in Aberdeen, Charlotte and Charlie Anthony were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their baby, who had been due on December 20. After an extended wait, their baby boy, Gabriel, was born at 01:47, weighing in at 4.2 kg (9 lbs 4 oz). Gabriel’s arrival ended their long wait, and Charlotte and Charlie expressed their gratitude for the support from NHS Grampian’s staff during the holiday period.
“The midwives were excellent, so patient,” Charlotte said, reflecting on the positive experience despite the long wait.
