Mick Mars Sues Mötley Crüe Over Gaslighting and Withholding Business Information

Co-founding guitarist Mick Mars has filed a lawsuit against Mötley Crüe for allegedly gaslighting him and withholding information about the band’s businesses in which he has a 25% ownership stake. The suit also claims that the band demanded he sign a severance agreement in exchange for a 5% stake in the group’s 2023 tour. The suit also alleged that Mars was mocked by the band for his painful spinal disease, and subjected to criticism for his playing, which was caused by malfunctioning in-ear monitors. Mars announced his retirement from touring in 2022 due to Ankylosing Spondylitis, a painful spinal disease.

Gaslighting and Mockery Allegations

Mick Mars, co-founder and guitarist of Mötley Crüe, is suing the band for allegedly gaslighting him and mocking him over his painful spinal disease. In a lawsuit filed against the band, Mars claims that Nikki Sixx continually “gaslighted” him by telling him that he had some sort of cognitive dysfunction and that his guitar playing was sub-par. The suit also claims that the band mocked him during live performances and withheld information about the band’s businesses in which he has a 25% ownership stake.

The lawsuit also alleges that during the band’s recent tour, Mars was subjected to criticism for his playing, which was caused by malfunctioning in-ear monitors. The suit claims that Mars played the wrong chords at times due to the malfunctioning monitors and not due to any cognitive dysfunction. Despite this, Mars is rarely mocked or criticised online, unlike other members of the band.

Business Interests and Tour Stake

The lawsuit also alleges that the band withheld information about Mötley Crüe businesses in which Mars has a 25% ownership stake. The suit claims that the band demanded that Mars sign a severance agreement that would divest him of those and other future interests, in exchange for a 5% stake in the group’s 2023 tour.

Ankylosing Spondylitis and Retirement

Mars announced his retirement from touring in 2022 due to his continuing and painful struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis. The inflammatory disease causes some of the bones in the spine to fuse, making the spine less flexible and resulting in a hunched posture. Mars has had the disease since his teens and underwent hip surgery in the early 2000s to help him continue touring.
