What does one lime make? That is what you ask! If you had never seen a limes juice before, I would tell you that it makes a very sour liquid. But if you have drank enough sodas or other drinks with added sweeteners, then you already know that a few drops of acid are not too much for some flavors to survive.
Having said that, how many times have you heard someone talk about doing something health related like eating fruits and vegetables because they say that it will give your skin more “layers” which mean better sun protection? They may also suggest drinking several glasses every day to get nutritional benefits such as vitamin C and potassium.
History of juicing
Today, almost every person is familiar with the benefits of fresh fruit juices – but that’s not always the case. The first people to experiment with drinking your fruits was the ancient Greeks! They would blend grapes or figs with honey and water and drink it during summer to help keep their teeth healthy and promote general wellness.
The Romans were even more creative when it came to adding ingredients to their grape juice drinks, incorporating wheat berries, parsley, cucumber, and milk just to name a few. During this period, there was even an ingredient called silphium which was heavily marketed for its medicinal properties and cost as much as 10% of Egypt’s yearly income!
In fact, some believe that dried citrus peel was what gave oranges (their “juice”) their famous flavor!
These early experiments helped form the basis of our current understanding of the health benefits of fruits. Since then, people have experimented with different combinations and proportions to determine the best balance of nutrients in individual beverages.
How to juice a lime
Now, this may seem like a lot but it is not! If you are using one of these methods, then only put in enough liquid for the given time frame.
Usually, we use limes when we want to set agua with an end goal of drinking it. When juicing limes, how much water you add should be equal to the amount of pulp that has been removed.
The more pulp you have left, the better the quality of the aguardiente will be. The flavor will be richer and creamier instead of thinner and less flavorful.
When pulping limes, try rubbing them between your hands or pressing down hard with a spoon. This can sometimes take several minutes depending on the size of the lime.
What are the benefits of juicing
With all these health benefits, it is definitely worth it to add some fresh produce to your diet!
One of my favorite ways to eat fruits and vegetables is by drinking them as a juice. This way, you get more of the nutrients in the fruit or vegetable, and you feel healthier after you’ve done it.
It is also very easy to do. You can either use a blender, a juicer, or a combination of both to make your juices.
With just about anyone capable of making their own juices, this technique is perfect for everyone. Even if you don’t have a machine at home, there are many great brands that contain enough nutritional value.
There are even mobile apps that help you create your recipes and find nutritious foods online.
Juice and your health
Even though limes are sometimes considered to be more of an acid than a base, they contain an important compound called citric acid that helps neutralize other acids in our bodies.
That means it can help prevent or reduce stomach aches caused by acidic foods like cheese, meat, or wine. It also aids in weight loss because eating too much acid may cause us to become hungry due to its effect on hormones.
It’s worth noting that one lime contains about 30% of the daily recommended amount of citric acid. That is why some people say you need to drink enough water so that half of what you eat gets absorbed and then voila! You have matched the acid content of one lime!
Drinking lots of liquid can make you feel full faster, which could help with weight loss. Also, drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day can aid in digestion and keep your heart healthy.
Plus, both water and citrus are great sources of electrolytes, which help regulate nerve and muscle function. Electrolytes get depleted when we lose fluid through breathing, exercise, or having feverish episodes.
Juice and your skin
Even though limes are usually considered to be more of an acid than a base, they play an important role in helping keep your skin healthy and functioning well.
Limes contain a compound called citric acid that helps neutralize other acids in your body. When you eat or drink too much acidic food or beverage, your liver must work extra hard to balance out the pH level in your blood. This can cause stress on your digestive system as it tries to process all of the foods and beverages.
Another important function of citric acid is protecting your teeth from bacterial growth. When there’s not enough citric acid present in your mouth, your body doesn’t have anything to prevent bacteria from thriving. That can lead to tooth decay or gum disease.
Since citrus fruits are a source of vitamin C, eating one or several limes every day can help promote health and strong bones, muscles, and immune systems. Plus, drinking their juice can help reduce oral inflammation and gingivitis (bad breath caused by bleeding gums).
Juice and your waistline
Many people praise citrus for aid in weight loss, which is why it’s commonly added to water or mixed into beverages like tea and juice. But how much lime should you use before it becomes too many calories?
A one-tablespoon serving of freshly squeezed lemon or orange juice equals about two tablespoons. A tablespoon doesn’t look very much, but that amount can be hard to achieve unless you are very careful with measurements!
If you drink eight ounces (about the size of a tall glass) of liquid every day, then just keep an eye on what kind of juice you’re drinking and how much milk you’re adding onto it. You’ll probably get enough vitamin C that way!
And don’t forget to factor in the natural sugar content of oranges and lemons when calculating calorie counts. Although some studies suggest that sour foods may cause weight gain due to a rise in insulin levels, other research says that eating enough fruits and vegetables helps regulate blood glucose and aids in weight loss.
Juice and your digestion
When we talk about drinking more liquid, we often times get this false sense of security that says you can drink as much water as you want and everything will be okay!
This isn’t true though. Drinking too much liquid can actually do things to your body that aren’t so good.
For example, when you eat foods along with your meal, you mix some air in between your mouth and the food which helps you taste certain flavors and also allows you to breathe properly.
But when you are drinking all of this fluid, it can enter your lungs, making it hard to taste anything and limiting your breathing. This is especially important since most people don’t drink enough even though they say they like drinks!
If you love liquids, I recommend having 10–12 cups of water per day. If you find yourself needing more than that, consider whether or not you should be drinking more alcohol or caffeine.
Both of these substances have diuretic effects- meaning they cause us to lose water through pee, poop, and death of tissue.
Juice and your exercise
When you do yoga, there are many different positions to choose from. You can do it on the floor, on a mat, or even on a chair. All of these require some sort of surface upon which to place your feet so that you can stabilize yourself.
That’s where the term “trampoline position” comes in. It sounds funny, but it works! And when I say work, I mean really good for your health and fitness.
By laying on your back with your knees bent and your feet up, you create an unstable platform that helps your body bounce off the bed and onto its feet. This is particularly helpful if you can’t quite get out of the initial position due to weight imbalance or lack of stability.
While most people use a trampoline as a way to keep in shape by bouncing around on it, we will look at one special type of trampoline use today that has incredible benefits.
It’s called spin hiking and it’s totally accessible to anyone. What makes this version unique is that not only does it help tone your muscles, it also aids in blood circulation, especially in your legs.
And since regular walking is great cardio, this is already pretty impressive. However, if you’re more actively engaged in other forms of exercise, then spinning uphill on a bike or taking the stairs instead of an elevator gives you greater overall activity.
