Glasgow will play host to thousands of runners and walkers this weekend as the 2025 Race for Life returns to the city’s streets in a major charity event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The 5K event, scheduled for Sunday, 18 May 2025, is one of Scotland’s largest annual charity runs and draws participants of all ages and abilities — many of whom take part in memory of loved ones or in celebration of cancer survivors.
A Run for Everyone
Described by organisers as an “achievable distance for most people,” the 5-kilometre course is ideal for those looking for a first-time charity challenge. The route covers just over 3 miles and typically takes under an hour to walk, though runners are also welcome.
Importantly, Race for Life events are non-competitive — meaning participants are free to go at their own pace. The focus is on community, remembrance, and raising funds rather than race times.

Community, Fundraising, and Impact
Race for Life is one of Cancer Research UK’s most prominent national campaigns. Proceeds help fund vital research into cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Many participants take part with personal motivations — running or walking in honour of someone affected by cancer. Each year, the event creates a powerful atmosphere of solidarity and remembrance.
In 2024, the Glasgow event alone raised over £1 million, and organisers are hopeful for an even greater total in 2025 as more teams, schools, workplaces, and families sign up.
“Every step, every pound, and every story shared makes a difference,” said Race for Life Glasgow coordinator Amy McDonnell. “This is about hope and unity — and the city always turns out in force.”
Registration & Final Details
While online registrations for the event are closing soon, on-the-day sign-ups may be available at the event village in Glasgow Green, depending on capacity. Participants should check in early and wear their race number visibly on their clothing.
Water stations, first aid points, and accessible toilets will be available throughout the event site.
