Kathmandu — Nepal’s final match in the 2024 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 ended abruptly as their game against Scotland was abandoned due to adverse weather conditions. The Rhinos, as the Nepal national team is known, managed to secure one point from the match after weather intervened at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, United States, on Monday.
Bad Weather Halts Play
The match, initially delayed by rain, saw Nepal bowling first after losing the toss. After six overs, with Nepal at 26-1, play was suspended again, this time due to the threat of lightning and tornadoes. Despite the team’s attempt to complete the game, officials called off the match for safety, resulting in a no-result and splitting points between the teams.
Nepal’s Struggles in League 2
Nepal’s performance in League 2 has been marked by a challenging year, winning only two out of 12 matches and placing seventh out of eight teams in the standings. Earlier in the tournament, Nepal achieved their first win in eight months against Scotland, securing a five-wicket victory. However, their matches against the United States ended in defeat (by three wickets and 37 runs, respectively), further complicating their League 2 campaign. Another game against Oman in Canada was also abandoned due to rain.
Looking Ahead: Tri-Series in Scotland
Nepal’s League 2 journey will continue next year, with their next tri-series scheduled in Scotland in May 2025. The upcoming series presents another chance for the Rhinos to improve their standing and bring their recent experiences into play against competitive teams in Scotland’s more familiar cricketing environment.
