India continued their dominant run in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, securing a massive 150-run victory over Scotland in their final Super Six encounter. Trisha Gongadi was the standout performer, marking a historic day with both bat and ball.
Gongadi became the first-ever player to score a century in the tournament’s history, smashing an incredible 110 runs off 59 balls. To top off her all-round performance, she also claimed three wickets for just six runs in her two overs, helping India rout Scotland in their chase.
Gongadi’s Record-Breaking Century Sets the Tone
After losing the toss, India was put to bat first. However, the early loss of the toss didn’t seem to bother them as Gongadi, alongside opening partner G Kamalini, took charge right from the start. The opening duo had the Scotland bowlers under pressure, adding a massive 147 runs for the first wicket in just 13.3 overs.
Kamalini, the other half of the partnership, was dismissed for a well-played 51 runs off 42 balls, including nine boundaries. Despite the early breakthrough, Gongadi remained at the crease, playing a brilliant knock. She finished with 110* runs, a monumental achievement in the tournament’s history. Gongadi’s innings featured 13 fours and four sixes, displaying her aggressive intent throughout the innings.
Sanika Chalke also played her part, remaining unbeaten on 29, helping India post a commanding total of 208/1 in 20 overs. Maisie Maceira of Scotland was the lone wicket-taker for her team, finishing with figures of 1/25 in her four overs.
Scotland’s Collapse in the Chase
Chasing a daunting target of 209 runs, Scotland never looked in contention. Their innings fell apart under pressure as India’s bowlers delivered the goods. Aayushi Shukla was the star with the ball, picking up four crucial wickets. Vaishnavi Sharma, who had been a revelation for India throughout the tournament, also contributed with three wickets.
It was, however, Gongadi who had the final say. Coming back into the attack, she wrapped up the Scottish innings by taking the last three wickets, finishing with remarkable figures of 3/6. Scotland’s batting line-up crumbled, and they were all out for just 58 runs in 14 overs, handing India a resounding 150-run victory.
Gongadi’s Historic Performance
There was no question who deserved the Player of the Match award. Gongadi’s sensational all-round performance was the driving force behind India’s comprehensive win. Her historic century and match-winning spell of bowling cemented her as the standout player in the encounter.
India’s performance in this Super Six clash highlighted their dominance in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, and they continue to build momentum as they head toward the knockout stages.
