The next generation of renewable energy leaders in Scotland has been named, with more than 30 young professionals shortlisted for this year’s Young Professionals Green Energy Awards. The highly anticipated event, scheduled for May 1 at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel, will celebrate the achievements of those pushing boundaries in the industry.
Recognizing Innovation and Dedication
More than 300 attendees are expected to gather as the brightest talents in the sector are recognized across eight competitive categories. The awards, organized by Scottish Renewables, highlight individuals who are driving forward new ideas and innovations in Scotland’s transition to clean energy.
Among the finalists:
- Megan Martin, a Design Engineer at Tony Gee and Partners LLP, played a crucial role in designing the turbine foundations for the Viking wind farm, working on both optioneering and detailed design stages.
- Obey Suleyman, a PhD student at the University of Strathclyde, is conducting groundbreaking research on sustainable manufacturing for wind turbine components.
- Ben Young, an engineer at SLR, is contributing to the development of export and inter-array cable system designs, which are essential for offshore wind projects.

Industry Leaders Applaud the Next Generation
Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, underscored the importance of recognizing young professionals who are shaping the future of Scotland’s clean energy sector.
“These awards celebrate a new wave of pioneers who are actively influencing the industry’s direction. Their contributions will be essential as Scotland continues its push toward a sustainable, low-carbon future,” she said.
Mack emphasized that even being shortlisted is a significant achievement. “Each of these individuals is playing a role in our transition to cleaner energy, and I hope this recognition will encourage them to continue their exceptional work.”
The Road Ahead for Winners
Winners of the Young Professionals Green Energy Awards will gain further recognition later this year. They will automatically be entered into the Young and Inspiring Award category at the Scottish Green Energy Awards, a flagship event celebrating achievements across the wider renewable energy sector.
With Scotland aiming for net-zero emissions by 2045, fostering young talent is critical. This year’s finalists exemplify the innovation and dedication required to accelerate the country’s clean energy ambitions.
