Loch Lomond Distillery, long a quiet force in Scotland’s whisky scene, is stepping into the spotlight. With a string of major industry awards and a global tasting campaign, the distillery is proving it has what it takes to stand among the best. Whisky lovers now have a unique opportunity to sample its offerings through a special Golden Week event.
A Breakout Year for Loch Lomond Whisky
For decades, Loch Lomond Distillery remained under the radar, crafting whisky in the shadow of Scotland’s more famous names. But recent years have seen a shift. The distillery’s innovative approach and diverse range of single malts are earning recognition, culminating in a landmark year of accolades.
In 2024, Loch Lomond was named Scotch Whisky Producer of the Year at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). It also became the most awarded Scotch whisky brand at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. These honors cement its status as one of the fastest-growing single malt brands worldwide.
“We’ve known for years how good our whisky is,” says Gary Mills, Loch Lomond’s brand ambassador. “Now the rest of the world is catching on.”
Golden Week: A Whisky Celebration Like No Other
To celebrate its success, Loch Lomond is hosting Golden Week from March 24 to 30. The event will feature exclusive tastings and promotions at major retailers, giving whisky enthusiasts a chance to explore its award-winning range.
- Special deals at retailers like The Whisky Exchange, Master of Malt, Whisky World, and Royal Mile Whiskies

Golden Week culminates on April 9 with an exclusive virtual tasting event. Hosted on Loch Lomond’s YouTube channel, the session will be led by whisky expert Joel Harrison and master blender Michael Henry. Fans can expect an in-depth exploration of key expressions, including the Loch Lomond Original, 12 Years Old, 18 Years Old, and the newly released Steam & Fire.
A Distillery That Does Things Differently
Loch Lomond’s approach to whisky making sets it apart. While many distilleries stick to tradition, Loch Lomond embraces innovation while respecting its roots. The key lies in its unique still setup.
Unlike most Scottish distilleries, which use only swan-neck pot stills, Loch Lomond also employs straight-neck stills and column stills. This setup allows for greater control over alcohol content and flavor development, producing a remarkably diverse range of whisky styles.
“Our still room floor gives us more creative freedom than almost any other distillery in Scotland,” explains Mills. “If our master blender, Michael Henry, were a painter, most distilleries would give him three colors. We give him eight.”

A Whisky for Every Taste
Loch Lomond’s award-winning lineup showcases the breadth of its capabilities. Two standout expressions capture the essence of its house style.
- Loch Lomond 12 Years Old Perfectly Balanced: A classic introduction to the brand. With notes of orchard fruit, honey, and soft smoke, it’s a versatile whisky that appeals to a wide audience.
- Loch Lomond 18 Years Old: A deeper, more complex whisky featuring rich oak spice, dried fruit, and a touch of peat. It was recently named The Whisky Exchange’s Whisky of the Year.

The Future of Loch Lomond Whisky
As Loch Lomond’s reputation grows, so does its ambition. Investment in innovation, marketing, and global expansion is paying off, with sales climbing rapidly. But for Mills and his team, success isn’t just about numbers.
“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved,” he says. “But whisky is meant to be shared. That’s what it’s all about.”
With Golden Week set to introduce even more people to its unique whisky-making approach, Loch Lomond is well on its way to becoming a household name in the world of single malt Scotch.
