Young artists in Scotland are being given a unique platform to showcase their creativity, with their artwork set to be displayed digitally at one of the country’s most prestigious galleries. The National Galleries of Scotland has launched Your Art World, an initiative that encourages children and young people to contribute their artwork for a rolling digital exhibition.
A Stage for Young Creators
Scotland’s budding artists, aged between three and 18, are invited to submit their creative works—whether drawings, paintings, sculptures, or even video pieces. The project, which seeks to put young voices at the forefront of artistic expression, will feature digital displays of their submissions at The National in Edinburgh.
The gallery is home to some of Scotland’s most iconic paintings, including The Monarch of the Glen and The Skating Minister. However, this time, the spotlight will shift to the raw, unfiltered creativity of young minds, offering them a chance to have their work seen by a wide audience.
“I’m so excited and proud to be showcasing the artwork of the talented young artists of Scotland,” said Siobhan McConnachie, head of learning and engagement at the National Galleries of Scotland. “The response so far has been truly inspiring, and we have been so impressed with everyone’s creativity.”
How It Works
The submission process is designed to be simple and accessible. Young artists need to photograph their work and upload the images to the National Galleries of Scotland’s online gallery. From there, the digital artworks will be incorporated into a continuously updated rolling display within the gallery itself.
New entries will be accepted over the coming months, with fresh artwork added to the screens each month until the end of September. This ensures an ever-evolving showcase, keeping the exhibition dynamic and reflective of ongoing creativity.
A number of school and community groups have also been working with the gallery to produce physical art pieces, which will be displayed alongside the digital showcase. These installations include works from:
- Redhall School (Edinburgh) – Focusing on sensory and tactile art.
- Victoria Primary and Nursery (Falkirk) – Engaging with social themes through embroidery and drawings.
- Oban High School – Exploring abstract painting techniques.
- North Edinburgh’s Lift Kids’ Club – Creating 3D sculptures reflecting community experiences.
More Than Just an Exhibition
Beyond simply displaying artwork, Your Art World serves a deeper purpose. It aims to encourage creative thinking, inspire self-expression, and affirm that art is an integral part of life—whether in schools, homes, or public spaces.
“Art has its place in every school, home, and young person’s life,” McConnachie added. “This project and exhibition truly celebrate that art really is for everyone.”
This exhibition is part of a broader effort by the National Galleries of Scotland to engage young people in the arts. By providing a platform where their work is recognized and valued, it reinforces the importance of creativity in personal and educational development.
