A 40-year journey of service and passion
Margaret Drennan is not just a barwoman. She is a legend in the Glasgow pub scene. For the last 40 years, she has been working at the same pub, formerly known as The Pollock Inn, on Brockburn Road. She has seen it through good times and bad, serving loyal customers and making new friends. She has also been the operator of the pub for nearly 23 years, managing the business and the staff with dedication and care.
Now, Margaret is ready to welcome back her patrons to a newly refurbished pub, rebranded as The Brockburn. The pub has undergone a £340k transformation, funded by Proper Pubs, an operator of Admiral Taverns. The renovation has given the pub a modern and vibrant look, while retaining its traditional charm and character.
Margaret is excited to show off the pub’s new look and re-open on Friday, February 23. She said: “The pub is already looking amazing, and I can’t believe the transformation so far. I can’t wait to get back behind the bar as the operator, show off the pub’s new look and welcome new and old customers in.”
A warm and inviting atmosphere for everyone
The Brockburn has been redeveloped with an updated bar and lounge area, creating a cosy and comfortable space for customers to enjoy a drink and a chat. The pub has also installed new bi-fold doors, giving visitors easy access to the outdoor space, which will be perfect for the warmer months.
The pub will offer a range of drinks, including cask ales, craft beers, wines and spirits. It will also have Sky Sports, TNT and horse racing channels, catering to sports fans and punters alike. The pub will run a busy schedule of regular entertainment, such as weekly karaoke and quiz nights, to bring the community together. It will also host both darts and pool teams, as well as various fundraising initiatives to support local charities.
The Brockburn aims to be a hub of the community, where everyone is welcome and feels at home. Margaret said: “We will continue to support the community in any way we can, and we’ll be starting off by collecting food for a local food bank, and donations to get a defibrillator installed. Pubs are the hub of their community, and we can’t wait to be the hub of ours.”
A promising future for the pub industry
The Brockburn is one of the many pubs that have been refurbished and re-opened by Proper Pubs, an operator of Admiral Taverns. Proper Pubs is committed to investing in the pub industry and supporting local operators like Margaret, who have a passion for their pubs and their customers.
Matthew Gurney, operations director for Proper Pubs, said: “I’m really excited about the opening of the Brockburn. The team is working extremely hard on this refurbishment and it’s looking incredible already. We’re just finalising those finishing touches to ensure its ready to open in just a few weeks’ time.”
He added: “On behalf of the Proper Pubs team, we would like to wish Margaret, every inch of success for the future in making the Brockburn a fantastic hub of the community.”
The Brockburn is set to re-open on Friday, February 23, at 12pm. Customers are invited to join Margaret and the team for a celebratory drink and a tour of the new pub.
