Scotland never fails to impress with its breathtaking landscapes and mesmerizing wildlife. From golden sunsets over sandy shores to lone stags standing proudly in the Highlands, photographers across the country have captured some truly striking moments. Here’s a selection of the best images submitted by the public between 14 and 21 March.
A Sunset to Remember
Kirsty Brien framed a moment of tranquility at Ayr Beach. As the sun dipped beyond the horizon, a couple and their dog stood silhouetted against the golden sky, creating a scene straight out of a painting. The reflection on the wet sand added to the surreal beauty, making this a picture-perfect moment.
The Watchful Guillemot
David Jeffery trained his lens on a common murre, or guillemot, perched on the cliffs of the Isle of Lunga. This sleek seabird, with its distinctive white eye-ring, looked poised against the rugged backdrop. Guillemots are known for their tight nesting colonies, and Lunga provides one of the most spectacular settings for birdwatching in Scotland.
A Lone Stag in the Highlands
Jordan Maguire’s photo from Glencoe captures a sense of solitude and grandeur. A stag, barely noticeable at first, stands in the middle ground, blending into the vast mountainous scenery. Bathed in the soft glow of late winter sunshine, the deer seems lost in thought, embodying the wild spirit of the Scottish Highlands.
Art Meets Nature at Loch Earn
Johnny MacLeod focused on a different kind of subject—an iconic sculpture. ‘Still,’ a stainless steel figure by artist Rob Mulholland, recently made its return to Loch Earn. The mirrored surface of the sculpture reflects the loch and sky, making it appear almost invisible at times. Set against a dramatic orange sunset, this image highlights the seamless interaction between art and nature.
