Cambo Country House and Estate, a historic venue and attraction on the coast of Fife, is preparing to host its 15th annual Snowdrop Festival in February and March. The festival celebrates the beauty and diversity of snowdrops, which are among the first flowers to bloom in the year. Cambo Estate is home to the UK’s Plant Heritage national collection of snowdrops, with over 200 varieties on display.
A rare opportunity to tour the house
As part of the festival, Cambo House, which has been the residence of the Erskine family since the late 1600s, will open its doors to visitors for the first time in over seven years. Visitors will have the chance to book a tour of the house, learn about its history and architecture, and enjoy refreshments. The house is also available for private hire as a venue for weddings, events, and corporate functions throughout the year.
A showcase of art and culture from Myanmar
In addition to the snowdrop display, visitors can also view a free art exhibition in Cambo House, featuring works by artists from Myanmar. The exhibition is curated by James Erskine, the current owner of Cambo Estate, who lived in Myanmar with his family from 2012 to 2019. The exhibition aims to highlight the importance of hope and creativity in communities affected by conflict and oppression. Myanmar has been facing a political and humanitarian crisis since a military coup in February 2021.
A range of activities and attractions on the estate
Cambo Estate offers a variety of attractions and activities for visitors of all ages and interests. Visitors can explore the Georgian walled garden and visitor centre, enjoy a meal or a snack at the award-winning cafe and gift shop, or take a walk through the magical woodlands to Kingsbarns beach. For those looking for more adventure, there is also the option to book a session in the beach sauna, or join an outdoor skills and movement class with WildStrong. The estate also hosts the Kingsbarns Distillery, which offers whisky and gin tours and tastings, and the Kingsbarns Golf Links, a world-class golf course.
A special event with a snowdrop expert
As part of the festival, Cambo House will also host a special event with Michael Myers, one of Scotland’s leading snowdrop experts. Myers will give an informative talk about the history, cultivation, and conservation of snowdrops, and answer questions from the audience. The event will take place on Saturday, February 24, and tickets can be booked online.
