Community shocked by rare violence
The shooting has shocked the community of Aberfeldy, a small town in Perthshire with a population of around 2,000. The town is known for its scenic location on the banks of the River Tay, and its historic attractions such as the Birks of Aberfeldy and the Wade’s Bridge.
Local residents expressed their disbelief and sadness at the news of Mr Lawson’s death. One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “He was a lovely man, very friendly and helpful. He always had a smile and a wave for everyone. He lived here for a long time and was well-known in the town. It’s hard to believe that something like this could happen here.”
Another neighbour, who also asked to remain anonymous, said: “It’s a very quiet and peaceful place, nothing ever happens here. We were woken up by the sound of sirens and saw the police and the ambulance outside. We didn’t know what was going on until we heard that someone had been shot. It’s shocking and upsetting. We don’t know why anyone would do this.”
Tributes paid to ‘kind and generous’ man
Mr Lawson’s family and friends have paid tribute to him, describing him as a ‘kind and generous’ man who loved his dog. His daughter, Amy Lawson, posted a heartfelt message on Facebook, saying: “I can’t believe I’m writing this, but my dad was taken from us this morning. He was the best dad anyone could ask for, and I’m so proud of him. He was always there for me, no matter what. He loved his dog, Molly, more than anything. He was kind and generous, and would do anything for anyone. He didn’t deserve this. I love you dad, rest in peace.”
His son, Scott Lawson, also shared a photo of his father on Facebook, with the caption: “RIP dad, love you always.” His friends and relatives commented on the posts, offering their condolences and support.
One of his friends, John Smith, wrote: “So sorry to hear this, Alan was a great guy, always had a laugh with him. He will be missed by many. Thinking of you and your family.”
Another friend, Mary Jones, wrote: “I’m heartbroken, Alan was such a lovely person, always cheerful and friendly. He was a good neighbour and a good friend. He loved his dog and his garden. He was taken too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.”
Investigation continues as suspect due in court
